The Books by Your Bed.

Do we have any readers in the house? I'm sure some of you enjoy a good book now and then. Reading is something that I love to do but never find time for; until recently. I've taken to reading a few pages of a book every night in the bath (which does tend to make my bath sessions into hour long periods of indulgence, but who cares? My nan who pays the water bill probably as I just keep refilling the water when it gets cold!) and then I read a few more pages before I go to sleep.

I'm one of those people that can't read just one book at a time, I have to have about 5 on the go at once to suit the different moods I'm in. So, I thought I'd do a little mini review of the books that I'm reading at the momento and how I'm getting on with them and so on.

Numero Uno

Wise Children by Angela Carter
Wise Children is a book that I had to read for A-Level English Literature and I have loved it ever since. I've read it countless times and it is my favourite book ever, it's always on my bedside table. It is a story of two sisters; Nora and Dora Chance, from birth to age 75. Dora is the narrator and the book is a farcical journey through life on the stage, with references to twins, illegitimacy, coming of age, relationships, relatives and a lot of Shakespeare. The novel flashes back and forth from the present to the past and is full of emotion, humour and the odd bit of darkness. There are surprises thrown in all over the shop and the story is quite unpredictable, normally I don't like this type of book but I adore Wise Children. I think it's Dora's narration she is such a well written character and keeps your attention, she's witty and charming and crude at times but completely lovable.

If you haven't read Wise Children I really recommend it, you can buy it here :)

& if you have read it what did you think? I know everyone in my A-Level class hated it apart from me and a few others!

Look out for the next installment of The Books by Your Bed soon!
