Dreaming of Tattoos

I've wanted to get a tattoo for a long long time. At least 5 years now but I've never dared (I don't think dared is the right word, as I'm not particularly scared by the prospect...) to yet. I have always loved the look of tattoos and think it's a great way to show your creative side. I really love traditional style tattoos, things that never date. I also think this is because I like to think I'm part sailor - even though I get sea sick (just a small issue).

This summer I'm definitely going to make it happen. I've got 6 weeks off of work and will have some pennies available so there will be no excuses.

Thought I might as well show you the sort of things that I like:

I love Valerie Vargas, she draws the most beautiful women I have ever seen tattooed, they are so detailed but yet still bold and traditional, lovely.
Most of all though I love Sailor Jerry tattoos. These are the ones that I always look at when I feel the need to get a tattoo, so I think I will be getting something inspired by these traditional tattoos as my first one.

Sailor Jerry Swallow

Sailor Jerry butterflies

Sailor Jerry flash

I love birds the mostest. I want two magpies on my chest near my collarbones I think.

If any of you guys have tattoos feel free to show me them or give me any advice etc it would be very welcome :)

  1. I've got three! My first one was done a year ago, three hibiscus flowers on my shoulder blade. I say shoulder blade but more just my shoulder ;) Didn't hurt much at all, but the last 15 minutes was sore (it took 1.5 hours)

Second one, a rose in colour on my foot. DO NOT get a foot tattoo for your first tattoo unless your pain threshold is particularly high! I cried, it was so painful. Was meant to take 50 mins, took 1.5 hours haha!

Third is writing on my wrist, took 10 mins if that and didn't hurt at all. Some people say that wrist is painful though so it is dependant on what you think your body can take.

I'd also recommend being tattooed somewhere that is easy to cover up for professional reasons and also somewhere that won't disfigure the tattoo if you lose or gain weight or even have a baby. If you have any questions about the process or anything at all feel free to ask me! I love my tattoos and wouldn't change them for the world.

  2. @Helen - Thanks for the lovely reply!

I just don't want to regret getting it done really, not that i'm a regretting type person anyway so don't know what I'm talking about!

I might take you up on that advice one day very soon, might pop along to my local tattooist sometime next week and see what they say :)

  5. I say go for it! However make sure you do your research into who you want the work off like you have done with valerie rather then worrying about the cost and ending up at the local shop like most do as it's easier! I've had work off valerie and her work is amazing, I am very picky when it comes to mine but you have to when it comes to tattoos! Good luck x

  6. Thanks for the comments girls :)

@A Road To Discovery - I'm pretty fortunate to live in the middle of England and have some great artists around me, will definitely consider all the options before picking! Don't want it to look crap and I don't mind investing money in to it seeing as though it'll be with me forever :) x
