Harry Potter Week: Dumbledore Inspired Eye Look

"Albus Dumbledore was never proud or vain; he could find something to value in anyone, however apparently insignificant or wretched, and I believe that his early losses endowed him with great humanity and sympathy. I shall miss his friendship more than I can say, but my loss is as nothing compared to the wizarding world's. That he was the most inspiring and the best loved of all Hogwarts headmasters cannot be in question. He died as he lived: working always for the greater good, and to his last hour, as willing to stretch out a hand to a small boy with dragon pox as he was on the day that I met him." Elphias Doge – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I read that quote this morning when I was rereading the Deathly Hallows and was inspired to create this makeup look. Dumbledore is one of the key characters from the book and is one of my favourites. I flicked through the first book – the Philosopher’s Stone to find J.K. Rowling’s description of him and decided to work from that.

“He was tall, thin and very old, judging by the silver of his hair and beard, which were both long enough to tuck into his belt. He was wearing long robes, a purple cloak which swept the ground and high-heeled buckled boots. His blue eyes were light, bright and sparkling behind half-moon spectacles and his nose was very long and crooked, as though it had been broken at least twice.” Page 12 – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

It’s the description of his eyes that I have taken quite literally in creating this look, but they are the part of Dumbledore that I always remember when I think about him (Yes, I do spend my time thinking about Harry Potter characters lol). Onwards.

Blue and sparkly just like Dumbledore’s eyes :)

I used:

Urban Decay Alice all over the lid, the 3rd and 4th eyeshadows on the top row of the Sleek Sparkle Palette blended into the crease/outer v, myface cosmetics Blingtone eyeshadow in Bellbottom Blues in the centre of my lid. I also used a bit of the silver from the Sleek palette on the inner corner of my eye as a highlight.

What do you think? Have you ever been inspired by a literary character? (please don’t tell me I’m the only one!)
