17 Photo Flawless Skin Primer

I purchased this yesterday when I was having a little 'argh-it's-payday-must-buy-something' moment in Boots, and I'm always in the market for an affordable primer anyway so in the basket it went. It is a part of 17's new Photo Flawless range which also includes a foundation, mascara and eye pencil which are supposed to give flawless skin and 'showstopping lashes' that will make you picture perfect.

What They Say:

Easy to use and effortlessly blendable, this 17 Photo Flawless Primer is designed to apply before foundation to smooth your skin and assist the application of your base, leaving skin even and freshall day long.
17 make-up artist Vanesa Guallar says:
“Apply the silky formula all over your face and to the eye area and massage into the skin. Not only will it ensure your make-up is even by minimising pores, it will create the perfect canvas for your foundation allowing it to glide on seamlessly.”

How I use it:
  • I squeezed a tiny bit of product on to the back of my hand (about the size of half a pea) and then dotted it over the areas of my face where I have large pores (around the nose) and also where I tend to get oily (t-zone).
  • Then I smoothed it into the skin until it had all sunk in.
  • I then applied my foundation on top :)
What I think:

I used this primer last night when I went out 'on the town' (lol) and it did it's job perfectly. It kept me shine free all night which is amazing as I usually have to powder while i'm out as I dance like a mad woman and get all sweaty (ew). When I got in my foundation was still looking pretty good considering it had been on a good 8 hours a little wearing off but not much considering I have oily skin. I did plan on taking photos of before and after but the vodka got the better of me and it completely slipped my mind. I also noticed that it did make my pores appear smaller when I applied it, usually I take 'pore minimising' claims with a pinch of salt but I could actually see a difference.

Final words:

I'd say give this primer a go if you're looking for one at an affordable price as in my opinion it does live up to it's claims.

Get 17 Photo Flawless Skin Primer here or in your local Boots store for only £4.99!

Weekend Wishlist

This week I have been wanting just one thing, a reference from my ex-university personal tutor for my PGCE! I've been sending him the request form for months now and he still hasn't replied! All the places will be gone soon :(

Punky Pink

I have a new favourite lipstick for work!

Barry M - Punky Pink - 145

It brightens up my face and the staying power is really good, it stayed on for most of the day I just reapplied a little bit after lunch. Got lots of compliments too, so a winner all round :)

An Education.

Seduction. The only word that I can think of to accurately describe this film. If you haven't seen it I'd really recommend it, it's one of my favourite films. It is the story of a schoolgirl applying to Oxford University whose life gets completely changed by a chance meeting with an older man with a flashy sports car. The film is funny and quite sad at times but in the end things work themselves out.

Anyway the reason for this post, not just to recommend the film, is to share some of the lovely outfits worn by Jenny (the main character) and Helen (the girlfriend of one of the older man's friends). It was the wardrobe choices that really stood out to me when I first saw the film, it's set in the 1960s so the style of the clothes is very vintage and just the kind of thing I love!

I'm loving all the leopard, check and floral prints, and the lovely blow-dried hair.

Have you seen An Education? What did you think?

One Coat Wonder - Revvvolution

One Coat Wonder's will be a weekly series where I show swatches of the nail polishes in my collection that are good to go in 1 coat, because I am lazy and sometimes can't be bothered to apply lots of coats, and figured other people might have the same levels of impatience!

So here we go,

First up we have Color Club's Revvvolution:

I adore this shade, it's a gunmetal grey with lots of holographic shimmer running through it which you can kind of see in the picture. The brush is a little thin but the consistency of the polish is wet enough to cover your nail in about 2 strokes (depending on nail width obviously). One coat is definitely all you need for this polish, I think more than this ruins the holographic effect, also a very shiny topcoat kind of dulls the finish so I'd even skip that too. The polish dries quickly and is pretty hard-wearing if I remember correctly. Just painted my nails with this and I can't stop looking at them!

Hope this was helpful :) If you'd like to see more posts like this please let me know, and remember to look out for the next installment next week :)

A Product Rave.

Imagine a literal product rave, lots of make up products all dancing and getting sweaty and taking drugs and covering themselves in neon paint inside an old warehouse...

Anyway on to the 'rave', Boots Tea Tree + Witch Hazel Shine Control Day Moisturiser

For some reason my skin has become more oily of late and this has resulted in break outs galore, so when I was browsing the shelves in Boots a couple of weeks ago I picked this moisturiser up. I wanted something that would help clear my spots up and also get rid of the excess oil so this looked like a good bet, I wouldn't normally have looked at this range but I'm glad I did! It is honestly the best moisturiser I've ever used.
  •  It leaves skin feeling matte which makes it great for use in the mornings as it kind of acts like a primer too.
  • This effect lasts a long time too, if I don't put any foundation on top of it my skin is left feeling matte for a good few hours.
  • The moisturiser also leaves my skin feeling soft all day
  •  i believe it has helped to get rid of my spots too!
  • It doesn't just sit on top of the skin like many other moisturisers, it sinks in almost instantly
  • It is scented like tea tree oil which some might find unpleasant but I quite like the smell, it's quite invigorating at 7 in the morning when I'm applying my make up.
  • It only costs £3.56 too, bargain.
  • & there are a range of other products in the range too.
I can see myself using this moisturiser for a long time to come, it does exactly what it says it will and for a bargain price too!

I was in Boots earlier today and saw that the range was on '2 for £5' so I picked up the Night Treatment Gel and the Peel-off Mask which I'm going to give a go tonight :) Hopefully they'll be just as good!

So, If you have oily/combination skin and are looking for a new moisturiser I'd definitely pop into Boots and give this a go.

Has anyone else tried it? I'd love to hear if it works for everybody

I heart Urban Outfitters Home.

For years I lusted over the Apartment section on the US Urban Outfitters website, and recently the Gifts & Home section of the UK website started to include some of the amazing bedding and cushions too! I am so glad that I can finally get my hands on some of the bedroom stuff that is a reflection on their clothing lines, effortlessly cool and chic.

Here are a few things that have caught my eye of late:
Ruffle Duvet Cover - Pink - £40 (Down from £110!) - Here
Alice Pillow Set - £25 - Here
Skull Salt & Pepper Pots - £5 - Here
Falling Leaves Shower Curtain - £35 - Here
Owl Cushion - £24 - Here

Little bit pricey, but their sales are often quite good, particularly towards the end. Hoping to pick a few bits up when I get paid!

Top 5: Miss Selfridge

Miss Selfridge is a shop which I often frequent, mostly because of the cute accessories and shoes. The clothing only goes up to a size 16 so it's very rare that anything fits me, wish they went up to a bigger size though as the clothes are usually lovely. Anyhoo, here is my 'Top 5' of Miss Selfridge:

Black Pear Collar Top - £38 - Here

Tan Buckle Two Tone Shoes - £50 - Here

Pink Satin and Lace Bra - £12 - Here

Nude Diamond Dress - £30 - Here

Cream Lace Bodice Dress - £45 - Here

How to make lipstick last all day/night.

Following on from a comment on my last post about my red lipstick collection I've decided to share my tips for making my lipstick last all day without it smearing all over my face.

Ingredients:

  • Lip Liner in a similar shade to your lipstick
  • Lipcote or another kind of lip sealant
  • Loose translucent powder
  • Tissue
  • Lipstick (obviously)
  • Lip Scrub
  • Lip conditioner/balm
Method:
  1. First of all you want to remove any dry bits from your lips so use a lip scrub to exfoliate these, if you don't have a lip scrub you can gently rub your lips with a toothbrush (Basically does the same job!)
  2. Apply a lip conditioner or balm, I use Blistex, and let this sink in. I normally apply this before doing the rest of my make-up so it has long enough to fully moisturise my lips. When you are ready to do your lips wipe away any excess lip conditioner so your lips are dry.
  3. Next I take a lip liner in a similar shade to my lipstick and line the edges of my lips, starting from my cupids bow out.
  4. Then you want to fill in the rest of your lips with the lip liner, this gives your lipstick a base and something to stick to.
  5. Now you can apply your lipstick with a brush or straight from the bullet whatever your preference is.
  6. Next place a tissue over your lips and blot the colour, don't worry if a lot of the colour comes off we're going to reapply in a mo.
  7. Apply a little loose translucent powder and pat it in, this will get rid of any moisture in the lipstick.
  8. Finally apply another coat of lipstick and you're good to go!
  9. An optional tip is to apply a lip sealant to the top of your lipstick on this final coat, I use Lipcote, but be sparing with this as sometimes I find it makes lipstick a bit peely and weird looking.
And there we have it, my tips for keeping that pout looking pretty. I've just picked these tips up through magazines/YouTube/beauty forums over the years and they seem to work for me, hopefully they do for you too! I want to see lots of lipstick posts now!

If you have any other tips feel free to share them in the comments below, I love hearing new ideas :)

PS. I will be adding pictures to this post when I find my camera cable lol but thought I'd publish it now anyway.

Rouge.

Red lipstick is one of my favourite things, it always has been, I've never been scared to just throw some on and go with the flow. I think it's because I watched Snow White so many times when I was younger lol. But yes I think red lippie is such a versatile thing, can be dressed up or down, it instantly makes an outfit chic and dramatically changes the way that your face looks. Completely effortless. And there is a shade for everyone, I think that because I'm so pale I can get away with quite a few different tones of red, maybe not the orangey reds too much though. My collection of red lipsticks ranges from coral to deep burgundy/plum but for years I just wore Barry M Pillar Box Red, which is still my favourite to this day and such a bargain at £4.25.

I thought I'd do some swatches of the red lipsticks that are in my collection at the moment (Sadly no Barry M, I used mine up over Christmas and haven't repurchased yet!)
