HAUL: Things that I cannot afford (But love any way!)

May-Haul--MAC-Illamasqua-make-up-beauty-blog-blush-foundation-bronzer-lipstick

L-R: Illamasqua Blusher in Disobey|MAC Lipstick in Chatterbox|MAC Blush in Blushbaby|Illamasqua Skin Base in Shade 2

In my mad panic to look nice for my interview earlier this week I felt the need to buy some new make up, and I don’t do things in half measures.

I’d heard lots about the Illamasqua Skin Base foundation and thought I’d pick it up, I think it cost me £25ish and it’s the first foundation that I’ve ever tried that is actually pale enough for my face (maybe even too pale now it’s warming up a bit!) I’ve not given it a proper test run yet but I will let you know how it goes.

Then I needed a new interview lipstick, Chatterbox has been on my wishlist for years and it’s the perfect mixture of bright pink and a more muted raspberry tone. The amplified finish is lovely, it has a nice sheen to it but is fully opaque and lasts a decent amount of time on the lips.

I then turned to a new contour/blush duo, being a palester finding products to contour with that aren’t too muddy or orange is tricky and I’m afraid to say that Disobey is not perfect – it is quite warm toned but with a light hand and a lot of blending it’s workable.

Blushbaby is my new favourite blush. It’s such a lovely shade of pink with a little bit of brown in there too – perfect for use as both a blush and a contour, it blends to perfection and lasts quite a while on the skin.

MAC Cosmetics

Blushbaby - £14.50

Chatterbox – £13.50

Illamasqua

Disobey - £16.50

Skin Base - £25.00

Do you buy new make-up for special occasions?

Can anyone recommend a contour shade for someone as pale as me?

Models Own Ibiza Mix over Nails Inc Basil Street

I’m back! The interview was yesterday (I think it went well, fingers crossed!) so I thought I’d tart up my interview nails with a bit of glitter. I love this Models Own glitter polish, the mix of colours is perfect for summer and I particularly enjoy that it’s gold based rather than silver. I love the way it looks over the nudey colour too, sophisticated glitter if you will.

Just a side note, how strong do Models Own nail polishes smell?! Haven’t smelled a polish that strong in a while!

The lovely L of Good Morning Angel has tagged me for the Versatile Blogger Award so I thought I’d pop it in now, you have to share seven unknown facts about yourself then tag people to do it too – I’m going to cop out and just tag everyone!

1. I’m crap at  routines, my whole life I’ve tried to get in some kind of routine for various things; blogging, skincare, sleeping… I even have to consciously remind myself to remember to brush my teeth in the mornings and at night!

2. I love going places alone, especially big cities – I love to just walk around and explore at my own pace.

3. I like boys with beards and tattoos preferably, but not exclusively. Can’t beat a bit of a piratey look can you!

4. My life goal is to write a Sociology book so that students have to reference me in their essays.

5. My favourite colours are the Christmas colours, and the school uniform colours.

6. My memory is rubbish and I do nothing to help it, I always forget to make to-do lists so kind of live in a constant state of forgetfulness.

7. My favourite place in this country is Preston, now if you’ve been to Preston you’re probably thinking why?! But as soon as I step off the train there I feel at home, it’s so weird but I think it’s because I grew up there whilst I was at university. I grew as a person there, made mistakes there and most of my favourite memories have Preston in them, I can’t wait until I can go back there!

If you would like to take part, link your posts below so that I can check them out!

Make Up For Ever: Smoky Lash Review

008
013
012
Now, I’m not normally the kind of person that gets excited about mascaras but this one, this one is something special. Since I started wearing this a couple of months ago my lashes have never looked better; my short, sparse lashes actually have that false lash effect that everyone goes on about.
008

What They Say:

Smoky Lash enhances lashes, for exceptional volume, infinite length and ultimate curl. Its formula is rich in ultra-fine mineral pigments to create the perfect smoky look: saturated lashes and smouldering eyes. Its ultra wide and dense new generation brush hold a maximum amount of product for instant spectacular lashes.
What I Thought:
  • The wand is the perfect size for my eyes, not too big or fat. This makes it really easy to apply and to get almost every lash, including those in the inner corner and on the bottom lashline.
  • The mascara holds a curl like a dream, my lashes are always still perfectly curled even after 12 hours of wear.
  • It adds length and volume but doesn’t get clumpy if you apply more than one coat, score.
  • My lashes don’t feel crispy when I’m wearing this either, I hate it when that happens.
  • The only downside for me is the price, £17.95 is expensive for a mascara and also it’s hard to get hold of in the UK!
Would I Repurchase?

I would, this mascara makes my lashes look and feel amazing – when I’ve used up all of my other mascaras I will definitely be repurchasing this one.

Natural FX Water Based Foundation SPF 15

Natural-FX-Foundation
Natural-FX-Foundation-2
Natural-FX-Foundation-3
Natural-FX-Foundation-4
Natural-FX-Foundation-5
This my friends is my holy grail daytime foundation. I was sent this to review a few weeks ago and since then I’ve worn it every day for work, it’s the best colour match that I’ve ever had – the shade has just enough pink in to suit my paleness perfectly. The foundation lasts a long time without powdering and has a natural, dewy finish providing just the right amount of coverage – I don’t have to use concealer when wearing this. It’s also one of those foundations that you can apply with your fingers and it blends really easily, so great for applying in a rush.
013

What They Say:

2-in-1 Concealer + Liquid Foundation with SPF 15
  • Dermatologist 1st choice for flawless looking skin
  • Available in over 20 global shades
  • Provides moderate coverage of skin imperfections such as acne, redness, under eye circles, uneven skin tones, post-surgical bruising, vitiligo and tattoos
  • Creates natural, dewy looking finish
  • Provides hydration and skin emolliency
  • All Skin Types
  • Sensitive skin (non-comedogenic – zero irritancy score)
  • Free of oil, and fragrance and parabens
Size: 30ml / 1.0 fl.oz

Active Ingredients:

1. Dermafix Technology:
i. Contributes to Water Resistance
ii. Binds to the skin - allows for ‘stay-put’ all-day coverage
iii. Ability to build extra coverage in ‘problem’ areas – Concealer/Foundation-in-one

2. Full Spectrum UVA and UVB Protection: SPF 15 Octinoxate , Octocrylene , Oxybenzone
• Protects against environmental aging
i. Helps reduce and prevent the appearance of fine lines caused by aging, smoking, gravity and sun damage
ii. UVB is associated with sunburn

3. Benefits of Vitamin E:
iii. Protects from inflammation: reduces erythema and skin sensitivity
iv. Soothes and promotes tissue repair
v. Anti-oxidant: Protects our natural skin lipids, collagen and elastin fibres from degradation – thereby preventing premature wrinkles

4. Benefits of Bisabolol:
i. Main active ingredient of the chamomile plant
ii. Anti-inflammatory: Protects and reduces skin irritation and sensitivity (calms down redness and makes our products tolerable)

5.Cholesteryl Hydroxystearate:
vi. Restores the lipid barrier by repairing dry and scaling skin, and replenishing lost lipids (natural skin oils).
vii. Reducing TEWL (trans epidermal water loss); prevents our natural water found in the skin from evaporating thus preventing skin dehydration.
viii. Strengthens capillaries to reduce redness.

Octinoxate 3.4%
Octocrylene 2.2%
Oxybenzone 0.9%
What I Thought:

The Good:

  • The shade range is immense, 20 shades from ghostly pale (me) to reasonably dark. They also provide a handy tool for determining your shade that uses your MAC shade as a base and finds your best match according to that.
  • The finish of this foundation is lovely, nice and natural with a dewy finish.
  • It lasts a long time on the skin, around 6 hours without powdering.
  • It can be used as a foundation and concealer and works brilliantly as both.
  • The coverage is really good, a little bit goes a long, long way.
  • The packaging is hygienic and mess-free.
The Bad:
  • The price. £37 is a lot of money for a foundation, and something that I would never have paid without trying the product first – but now I’ve tried it I think I’m going to have to repurchase!
  • If you apply too much product it can become a little sticky on the skin
  • The product does separate on me sometimes, so make sure you shake it well before squeezing some out or you’ll just get water coming out.
Would I Repurchase:

Yes! This has fast become my daily foundation and I can’t imagine not having in my collection now, will definitely be getting another one when this runs out.

Montagne Jeunesse–Dead Sea Face Spa–Face Mask

Montagne Jeunesse Face Mask Dead Sea Face Spa
Montagne Jeunesse – Dead Sea Face Spa – Sheet Mask – 99p
What They Say:
Too busy to take time out? Need to feel pampered and rejuvenated? Let the calming Dead Sea Salt and soothing pressed Seaweed submerge tired, stressed out skin leaving it smooth and re-hydrated.
What I Thought:
  • I wasn’t a fan of the scent of this mask, it smelled a bit aftershavey.
  • It was very moist when I removed it from the packet – I quite liked this as it wouldn’t have been as effective if it was dry.
  • It gave a cooling sensation to the skin that was nice and refreshing.
  • I did find the mask quite uncomfortable to wear though as it didn’t really fit and the eye and nose holes were way too big for my features.
  • When the time came to remove it, my face was nice and moist and it said to massage in the excess product which I did and it sank in quite quickly.
  • After I’d rinsed the mask I felt that my skin felt quite refreshed and revitalised but nothing particularly different to when I normally cleanse.
  • I did not have any reactions to the ingredients in this mask and my skin can be quite sensitive sometimes.
Would I Repurchase?
I don’t feel like the mask did anything particularly special for my skin so I probably wouldn’t repurchase this, but the experience of using a sheet mask was quite fun so I might consider another brand.
You can buy Montagne Jeunesse masks from most supermarkets and pharmacies

SIX ON SUNDAY #11

SIX-ON-SUNDAYEleven weeks. Longest time I’ve ever done something for I’m sure! I’m so proud of myself!songoftheweek
Abracadabra – Steve Miller Band
I used to be obsessed with this song when I was at uni lol, such a good one though. Just makes you feel happy when you hear it as it’s so old school!

Toddlers & Tiaras
Got one this week! I have been obsessed with Toddlers & Tiaras, it’s just so addictive. I cannot stop watching the programme it’s definitely car-crash TV and I love it, seeing the deluded pageant mom’s [sic] parade their daughters around like dolls is probably something that I should be appalled by but nope. If you’ve not seen it you should really give it a go, you’ll be hooked!

A La Carte Cosmetics – Brow Ink – Taupe
I bought this in a blog sale for one English pound a couple of weeks ago and my eyebrows have never looked better. I’m not one to bother with my eye brows really but as they are so fair I probably should do, and since I got this pen I’ve been doing it daily! I’m not sure if it’s exactly the right shade for me but I do love the definition that it gives, and it lasts all day (and longer if you forget to remove make-up!) without fading or smudging.
You can buy it here for £22
event
Event of this week is a boring work type event, this week I went to my first meeting with a parent (and my manager – they haven’t just let me loose on the ‘rents solo!) of one of the students that I support. It was quite interesting to be able to meet the parent and hear their views on what would be best for their child and how the school can best support them. It definitely gave me a deeper insight into the child and where they came from, so to speak. Definitely won’t be so scared next time either!

NAILORDER
The lovely Hayley from Strangeness & Charm has just set up this little shop selling her nail art on false nails! There are only a few designs on there at the moment but they are stunning! I particularly love the Wise Owls – so cute! If you’re into nail art but are not at all skilled (like moi!) then this might be a good way to fake it! The designs are really reasonably priced too (£4-6).

BeautyBecca
I met Becca at an event a couple of months ago and when I got home and checked out her blog it was love at first sight. Becca posts amazing OOTD’s, skincare and beauty as well as hauls and reviews. One of those blogs that always has something to catch your attention and that you end up reading for hours.
Hope that you’ve all had a lovely week!
