Fresh Start.

Welcome

Hello… It’s been a little while since I sat and wrote a blog post and it feels good to be back in the saddle… I’ve had a month off of blogging for the first time in two and a half years and it was exactly what I needed.

I’ve had time to evaluate what I like and dislike about blogging and what I want my blog to be, I think that in the last year or so blogs have become so commercialised and I’m not sure that’s what I want Paperbacks & Postcards to be about. Yes, it’s exciting to get emails from PR companies about the latest products and of course it’s always amazing to be invited to snazzy events down in London but is that why we started our blogs in the first place? I know I didn’t. I started this blog because I love writing and I missed doing it regularly when I graduated from university. I spent a few hours the other day reading through old blog posts and I was a bit disappointed in myself to be honest – when I first started blogging every single blog post was well thought out and researched and I spent time making sure that it was interesting to read, I made sure that I interacted with my readers and I immersed myself in the blogging community. When I look at my more recent posts I don’t see that, I see a slew of gifted items and sponsored content with posts name-dropping products all over the shop – I wasn’t proud of my little blog any more.

So, I’m back and I’m going to make myself feel proud of myself again. I’m going to blog about things which I find interesting and I’m going to try to make Paperbacks & Postcards a nice place to be again. I hope you’re on board with me, if not, thank you for the support over the last couple of years – I wish you well.

P.S. How do we like the new blog design? I’ve still got a few tweaks to make but I love it.

P.P.S. Do you have any post requests? I’ve got a week off work and I’d love to spend that time blogging.

  2. Yay, it's nice to see you back! Yours was one of the very first blogs I ever read and I've missed your little slice of the internet.
It's so difficult not to get caught up in all the PR madness and to not feel like your blog is constantly being pitched against other blogs so it's good to take stock and reconnect.
I hope you find your bloggy balance :) xxx

  5. Glad to see you back, and it's great that you want to keep your blog about what you want to write about - it's so sad when blogs become nothing but adverts and sponsored content, I think everything in moderation is ok, like so many things.

  7. yay, you're back! I agree, sometimes you need time away from what you do to know it IS what you want to do, and know how to continue doing it so that you love it.
Look forward to seeing what's coming!

  8. I've only just started blogging myself (I am a complete little newbie) and was looking through blogs to see different identities and yours has really stood out to me. I really really REALLY love it. And I love how personable you are with your readers, definitely an inspiration and so I am glad this post is about keeping that spirit on! YAYY it's people like you that inspired me to blog in the first place :) xx
