Way back in February my boyfriend took me (and his dad) to see a band that I’d never heard of. Pure Love. I had no idea what to expect, no preconceptions at all. It was definitely the most interesting gig I’ve ever been to.
Pure Love was formed in 2011 by ex-Gallows front man Frank Carter and guitarist Jim Carroll and is a completely different style to Gallows, less punk and shouty and more guitar based rock. Their debut album, Anthems, was released this year alongside a 17 date tour. We went to the last night of the tour at a little venue in Bedford, it was quite small in there but I always think being crammed into a place adds to the atmosphere. There were a couple of support bands on before Pure Love, they were pretty good actually.
Pure Love came on and the gig was mental. There were stagedives, a circle pit around the drummer, singing from the bar, a song with everyone sitting on each others shoulders, I almost got a kick to the head, all fun and games. I loved being in that atmosphere again, it was electric. Reminded me of being 17 again and going to gigs every week and moshing my little heart out, coming home covered in bruises and happy memories.
