Blogmas Day 1: The 2013 Christmas Tag

I’m going to attempt to do Blogmas this year, which involves blogging every day until Christmas (I’m going to try and do the whole of December though – Blogcember doesn’t have the same ring to it!). I’m feeling quite positive about it this year, and hope I manage to get through the whole month. I thought I’d kick things off by doing a Tag post, and Makeup Pixi3’s 2013 Christmas Tag seemed perfect.

1.  Do you prefer a real Christmas tree or synthetic?

I’ve had both in the houses that I grew up in, and don’t really have a preference to be honest! At my Nan’s house we have a big synthetic one that always looks nice once we’ve decorated it. So I guess I’ll go with synthetic.

2.  You're in a coffee shop, it's December, what do you pick?

If they have Peppermint Hot Chocolate then I would choose that, if not I will just go with regular Hot Chocolate. I’m not really a warm drink fan to be honest but if it’s freezing I do like to indulge.

3.  What’s your favourite colour scheme for decorating the tree?

Personally I love trees that look a bit mis-matched and quirky, I think overly designed and colour-themed trees lack charm. When I have my own tree I think I’ll start collecting special ornaments that we can add to each year, and then fill the rest of the tree with cute decorations that catch my eye in the shops. I do love all of the Christmas colours though so I’m sure they’ll make an appearance.

4.  Giving or receiving?

I love giving gifts, it’s so nice to treat someone to something special. I really love giving my little sister presents as she’s just got to the age where she gets really excited when she sees something she’s wanted. I do think we all get a little carried away at Christmas time with all of the consumerism though, and I kind of wish we could go back to basics just to see how people celebrated Christmas before huge corporations got involved.

5.  To mince pie or not to?

I’ve never tried a mince pie! I’m not a lover of sweet things really so things like pies and tarts don’t really appeal to me, but the fact that they are called ‘mince’ pies really puts me off. I just associate mincemeat with the beef you put in Spaghetti Bolognese! I’m a weirdo.

6.  What's your traditional Christmas lunch?

At my Mum’s house we just have the usual turkey and trimmings, we sometimes have beef and ham to accompany the turkey as well. We have mashed potatoes and roast potatoes, pigs in blankets and sometimes little Yorkshire puddings too.

7.  Christmas day fashion

I normally try and make a little bit of effort as I usually want to try out new make-up and bits I’ve received for Christmas. I will probably put on a nice dress and some pretty shoes so I look nice in any photos – I’d much rather hang out in my PJ’s all day though!

8.  What's your favourite Christmas song?

I pretty much love all Christmas songs but I have 2 ultimate favourites, Lonely This Christmas by Mud and Step into Christmas by Elton John. Whilst I was at uni me and my best friend used to watch the music channels pretty much all night and around Christmas time these were always our faves, the video for Lonely This Christmas is so funny to watch!

9. What's your favourite Christmas film?

I love Home Alone and Miracle on 34th Street. I’m a big kid at heart and these two have been my favourites since I was little, I always watch Miracle on 34th Street whilst I wrap my presents up. I’ve just been watching Home Alone too, it always has me giggling and makes me happy.

10. Open presents before or after lunch?

I have quite a complicated Christmas Day situation as my family is all disjointed and spread over different locations (I can’t wait until I get to spend Christmas in one house for the whole time!). I open my presents from my Nan and her side of the family as soon as we wake up, this is normally around 5am as my cousin who is 18 wakes us up ridiculously early. I then go to my Mum’s house for dinner and open my presents from her side of the family before lunch. Then at tea time we see my Dad and get my presents from him. It’s good in some ways because you get lots of presents spread out throughout the day!

Thank you to Makeup Pixi3 for creating this tag, I tag you all to do it too!

  1. You're niot missing out the mince pie front!! I love the idea of collecting ornaments and decorations, my parents did this (well my dad) and our christmas theme slightly resembles a jumble sale (ok not that bad) but it looks so homely. I can't wait to do that in my own home one day. Also i did have to giggle that you and your gran get up at 5am ha! x

  4. Great answers :)
I love a good mis-matched tree and always buy a new ornament every year. Despite having no set colour theme almost everything on there is either green or red, I'm obviously drawn to those colours at Christmas time!
    I love Christmas :) x
