In October me and le boyfriend went on a little mini break to Surrey, we stayed at the De Vere Venues hotel in East Horsley. I think we booked the hotel for a bargainous price, as they are always having sales. I think it worked out at under £80 for three nights! As you can see the hotel and it’s surroundings were gorgeous, such a beautiful place to relax for a few days, we were staying in the more modern part of the hotel but it was lovely to walk around the old mansion house.
East Horsley is in the middle of nowhere though and you’re a bit isolated if you don’t drive, which is quite nice if you want to totally cut yourself off from everyone else but not handy if you’re after some sneaky room snacks. There wasn’t really much to do in the surrounding area except for walking, the hotel does have leisure facilities but we didn’t visit them as there were too many children around. We ended up getting the bus into Guilford one day to visit the shops and have a meal out, it was really nice there – lots of shops to keep us entertained and loads of places to eat.
The hotel was the only place you could eat really, there was a pub around the corner from the hotel but it always looked empty when we passed it so we didn’t brave going in there. The hotel had two choices for dining, the bar and the buffet grill restaurant. We ate in both and weren’t particularly enamoured with either; it was super expensive and the portions were small in the bar, the buffet restaurant was better but the food quality was poor and everything we had was cold.
I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again, I had a nice time but it wasn’t really my cup of tea. It would be a beautiful location for a wedding or something but there just wasn’t enough to do to keep me entertained for more than one night. The Wi-Fi signal was terrible and there was no room service available so that we could have a ‘duvet day’ and not leave the room – was very disappointed with this as the website advertised it and sometimes I just don’t want to get changed out of my PJ’s! It was great to get away but I think I’ll try somewhere a bit more lively next time I book a weekend mini break.
