January Favourites

Elemis FreshSkin Skin Clear Purifying Face Wash

I mentioned this in my skincare routine post earlier in the month and it really is a lovely product, I use it every single day and it makes my skin feel so clean and fresh. It has made such a difference to my skin too, I’ve had hardly any breakouts since I started using it. It smells divine too.

Nivea Lip Butters

I got a couple of the Nivea Lip Butters in December and they have fast become my favourite lip balms, the scents are amazing – I have the Vanilla & Macadamia and Caramel Cream ones and they smell so good! They’re really good at nourishing the lips too, they’re not too heavy so they sink in nicely and don’t leave that horrible residue on your lips. They do leave a slight gloss on your lips though which is quite nice if you’re having a No Make-up Day. If you haven’t already, go and smell these! You’ll be hooked!

Max Factor False Lash Effect Waterproof

I’d never tried a Max Factor mascara until I saw this on offer in Sainsbury’s just before Christmas, I’m so glad that I bought it – it’s my new favourite mascara! It adds length and volume and it definitely lives up to it’s waterproof claims – it doesn’t budge. I especially love it for the bottom lashes as it’s one of those rubber spikey brushes that makes applying mascara to the bottom lashes easy. I only need one coat on my lashes too!

Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter

I used to love this product when I was younger but then went off of it, I received this in a gift set at Christmas time and have been using it every time I’ve had a bath since. I’d forgotten how soft it makes your skin and how nice the fragrance is! I will definitely be rebuying it once this little one has ran out.

NEOM Organics Complete Bliss Hand Cream

I’ve really been getting into hand cream lately, I’ve got about 5 on the go but this is definitely my favourite. It smells amazing and it’s thick and luxurious but it soaks in almost instantly.

What has your favourite product been in January?

Bourjois 1 Seconde Nail Enamel in 09 Lavande Esquisse & 14 Rainbow Apparition

Application: 2 coats of the lavender shade and then 1 coat of the glitter on the ring finger. The wide brush makes application easy but a little messy.

Lasting Power: Good, no chips for a few days and would have lasted longer if I’d not removed it.

Removal: Easy peasy, although the glitter requires a bit of force.

Would I re-apply it? Yes! I love both shades on their own and I think they look nice like this too, haven’t done a statement ring finger for ages!

Decleor Aromessence Serums

Decleor Skincare Paris Skin Aromessence serum luxury face beauty

Decleor Aromessence Serums @ Liberty

The Aromessence Serums by Decleor are powerful concentrates of active essential oils that are perfectly blended to give outstanding results. They are 100% pure, 100% natural and preservative free – no nasties here! The serums have been developed to be used daily and the blend of essential oils have been specifically chosen for their effect on the skin and their aromatherapy properties – making you feel as relaxed and balanced as possible.

There are six Aromessence serums for the face:

The serums are designed to be used under other skincare products to give a boost to the skin, I’ve been using the Ylang Ylang serum in the morning underneath my daily moisturiser and the Angelique serum in the evening under my more moisturising night cream. I have noticed a difference since I started to use them, my moisturisers seem to sink in a lot more quickly and my skin feels much nicer than if I’d used the moisturiser alone. I imagine the Ylang Ylang serum will be amazing in summer when my skin is much more oily but it’s doing a fab job of controlling my oil at the moment. My Nan is trying out the Iris and Excellence serums so I will get her to report back once she’s tried them for a couple of weeks.

To apply the serums Decleor suggests you use their targeted application techniques to get the best out of the products, this also helps you to use just the right amount of product too.

If you’re looking for a treat for your skin I would definitely recommend trying out these serums from Decleor, they are lovely products and they really do work. Pop along to Liberty next time you’re in London to check out the Decleor counter for some advice – Decleor also have one of the Beauty Treatment Rooms at Liberty and for £30 (redeemable against products) you could experience the hour long Signature Aromatherapy treatment.

Check out the Liberty website for more Decleor products and beauty gift sets.

Have you tried anything from Decleor? Any recommendations?

ghd Style & Protect Gift Set

GHD Style and Protect Gift Set Straightners Hair Haircare Brush
GHD Style and Protect Gift Set
GHD Style and Protect Gift Set 2
This little gift set from ghd, contains everything that you need for smooth, shiny hair. Now, smooth, shiny hair isn’t something I normally go for, but as I’ve been testing these products out so many people have commented on how shiny and healthy my hair is looking that I might be a convert to the shiny side. I’ve been using all of the products together when I’ve been blow-drying my hair and I can really tell a difference in the way that my hair looks and feels.

The large Paddle Brush is amazing at brushing big sections of my hair – it did a pretty good job at detangling too. I used this as I dried my hair and it really helped to smooth out my hair and straighten it. The Straight & Smooth Spray (for normal/fine hair) is the perfect addition to any haircare routine, it contains the ghd heat protectant so is brilliant to use before drying or straightening your hair and it makes your hair really smooth and sleek feeling without weighing it down. I really like the spray on this too, it gives a nice even mist that allows you to spray your hair easily. I apply this on damp hair but you can also use it on dry hair before styling too. The Final Shine Spray is an excellent addition to the gift set, it’s a really lovely product that is perfect for finishing off any styles that you’ve created – it makes your hair shiny without looking greasy and it also has a little bit of hold to tame any flyaways. I didn’t use the sectioning clips as I didn’t actually need to straighten my hair after blow-drying my hair with these products (they’re –that- good!), but I’m sure they will come in handy if you have a lot of hair.
The ghd Style & Protect Gift Set would make an amazing gift to any girl that enjoys playing with their hair, the ghd brand brings with it an air of luxury and all of the products included are definitely worth it.
I will be doing a hair tutorial using these products just before Valentine’s Day, so be sure to look out for that!
Have you tried any of the ghd products before?

Things I Wanted to Buy This Week… The Book Edition

51Nd0vhojTL._SL500_AEJHT  AECAW
I’ve been wanting to expand my book collection for quite a while and those Puffin Classics are the reason why, would you just look at the beautiful covers – they’d look amazing on a bookshelf. The Penguin Clothbound classics are also just as beautiful – I’d love to collect both sets but I fear I am and always will be too poor for such things. I spied the Hogwarts Library Boxed Set last night whilst I was browsing Amazon and it reminded me that I never did buy Quidditch Through the Ages or Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And I’ve always wanted to buy Angela Carter’s Fairy Tales, I love Angela Carter – Wise Children is one of my favourite books, and I’ve heard great things about her fairy tales. The Night Circus has been on my wishlist for a while now, the cover always catches my eye when I visit bookshops and I’m intrigued by the story – might have to pick that up when I get paid on Thursday.
What’s your favourite book?
Have you read any of the books mentioned above?

FOTD: Pink Lips

A bold pink lip is one of my favourite ways to add a bit of brightness to my face, normally reserved for spring or summer but when worn with a subtle navy smoky eye I think it’s totally appropriate for winter too. The lipstick in question is 17’s Pink Power – my favourite bright pink and it’s cheap too. The formula is lovely, it’s opaque in one swipe and it’s a semi-matte finish so not too drying but without too much of a shine to it too.

For my eyes I used the Laura Mercier Sequin Eye Colour in Lapis along the lashes and then winged out for a subtle cat eye look, I used some of the 17 Perk & Paint Jumbo Liner on the water line (black on the top, pink on the bottom) and then I finished the look with a bit of the Bourjois Coup de Theatre mascara (Can’t find this online anywhere, so it’s possibly discontinued!).

On my face I used the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum which is a little too dark for me but I love the formulation of it, it gives the skin a nice radiance without being too disco ball! I used a blush from FashionistA – New York I believe and a little Vanilla Pigment from MAC along the tops of my cheeks. Under my eyes I used the Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer to add a bit of brightness – this has no concealing properties so if you suffer with dark circles I wouldn’t recommend it for that. And finally, I brushed a little of the Benefit Bossy Eye Shadow through my brows to define them a little.

Are you a fan of bright lips in winter?

My Current Skincare Routine (Night)

A couple of weeks ago I shared my daytime skincare routine with you and I promised an update on my evening routine too, so here we go! I think I’ve mentioned a couple of these products before but I will do a mini review of each one as I did with my daytime routine. I think it’s the night time part of my skincare routine that has made all the difference to how my skin has been behaving lately, it encourages me to take off my make-up every day and that makes it a success in my mind.

Emma Hardie – Amazing Face Natural Lift and Sculpt – Moringa Cleansing Balm - £34*

I use this cleansing balm to remove the day’s make-up. I start by removing my eye make-up with it, I normally put about a finger tip’s worth of the balm into my palm and warm it up before applying to my eyes in a circular motion. Once all of my eye make-up has been melted away I use a similar amount of product to remove the rest of my make-up. I then use the Emma Hardie Professional Cleansing Cloth (these are amazing!) to remove the product from my skin – I run the cloth under warm water and then use it all over my face – I use the soft side first then the muslin side to exfoliate my chin, nose and cheeks. The balm smells really nice and lemony and I’ve never experienced any irritation due to this, it removes all of my make-up really well and my face feels fresh and clean after use. It’s pricey, but I would definitely repurchase this as it makes removing my make-up simple and quite enjoyable (is that weird?!).

Elemis Fresh Skin – Skin Clear Overnight Serum - £18*

I’ve been using this serum almost every night for the past month or so and I think it really has helped to clear my skin up, I normally get terrible hormonal spots at that time of the month but since using this I don’t think I’ve even broken out once! It has the same scent as the other Elemis Fresh Skin products which makes me love it even more. I apply one pump of the serum all over my face and it sinks in almost immediately – it doesn’t leave the face feeling tight or sticky either.

L’Occitane Ultra Gentle Moisturiser with 8% Shea Butter - £25*

In the colder months my oily/combination skin becomes really dehydrated and to combat that I’ve been using this moisturiser. The Ultra Gentle Moisturiser is made with 8% Shea Butter to leave skin feeling nourished and smooth (it also protects the skin against the harsh cold air!). I like to use this just before bed as I find it does need a little while to sink in fully but when I wake up in the morning my skin feels lovely and soft and not nearly as dehydrated. I find the moisturiser is also great on sensitive skin and when I have a break out this is perfect for soothing any redness and irritation. Definitely worth the money, I’ve had this bottle for almost a year now and it’s still going strong as you only need to use a tiny amount.

And that, my friends, is my evening skincare routine. I try not to overcomplicate it too much as I know I’ll just forget steps anyway, occasionally I’ll use a toner (The Body Shop Vitamin E Spritz) but not every day so I didn’t include it. Hope this post has given you some ideas if you’re looking to refresh your skincare routine.

The final part of my routine, the extras – face masks, spot treatments and exfoliants will be up next week so check back then!

Do you have a seperate day and night routine?

What’s your favourite product to use in the evening?

NOTW: Jelly Sandwich

Sinful Colors – Daddy’s Girl & Revlon -  Facet’s of Fuchsia

Application: I applied one coat of Daddy’s Girl followed by one coat of Facet’s of Fuchsia and then another coat of Daddy’s Girl to give the opacity seen in the images. I love the effect it’s given, and the colours combined create a really nice shade of purple.

Lasting Power: I had this on for about 4 days before it started peeling off due to the many layers of polish.

Removal: I might have just peeled this off… (Don’t tell the nail police!)

Would I re-apply it? Yes! I love this look – perfect for a dark nail with a difference.

What have you got on your nails this week?

Things I Wanted to Buy This Week… The Wellies Edition

With all the snow this week I’ve had serious wellies envy, my current pair are hand-me-downs from my Mum and are 2 sizes too big, their only redeeming feature is that they are purple. I keep seeing all these beautiful brightly coloured wellies around and I’m seriously jealous! So here’s my little wishlist for this week. I particularly love the pink Joules ones with the ribbons – so cute!
Do you own any wellies?
