September Favourites

September Favourites 2013
On to the next one, another month nearer to Christmas. September’s over, thank God, I hate September because it signals the start of work for another year and the beginning of the ‘ill’ season. I’ve ended September with a nasty case of the flu, I was stuck in bed for 3 days last week because it hurt so much to move my neck and back. Feeling better now though, woop! This month I’ve been loving the same basic things as every month, my Dr Jart BB Cream and Clinique High Impact mascara are still number 1 but I’ve got a few new things to mention too.
I picked this brush up a couple of months ago from TK Maxx for under a fiver, I always check the brush section in their for Eco Tools brushes as they’re my favourites. I’ve been keeping this retractable kabuki brush in my bag to use with my powder throughout the day. It’s really nice and dense and applies the powder evenly giving a really lovely finish on the skin.
No7 don’t make this concealer any more but from the description on the website I’m guessing the Match Made Concealer is pretty similar, I have a No7 voucher in my purse at the moment so I might investigate this tomorrow. This concealer is amazing, it covers blemishes and dark circles easily and it blends really well. I’ve had this hidden in my work bag for months now and hardly ever used it but I’ve been using it every day. I really hope that the Match Made concealer is the same because I really love this concealer.
I received this in my Love Me Beauty Box this month and I’ve been loving it since I first started using it. I’d been after a new foot cream for ages and this is perfect, it sinks in quickly and smells nice. It leaves my feet feeling nice and soft and is just a really lovely product to use. My feet don’t seem to be as dry as they used to be either so it must have some lasting effects.
This has been a firm favourite of mine for a couple of years now but I’d forgotten that I owned the little solid version of Vanillary, I found it in a bag the other day and it’s been coming everywhere with me since then. I much prefer the scent in the solid version, I also have the spritzer, as it seems a bit sweeter to me. The perfume is so warm and comforting, it’s a really sweet vanilla scent that reminds me of vanilla fudge. It lingers on the skin for hours and hours and it’s always nice to get a hit of it when you’re walking along somewhere.
Fudge Urban Dry Shampoo*
I received this Fudge Urban Dry Shampoo from the Handpicked Media London Fashion Week Suite a couple of weeks ago and it’s been the only dry shampoo I’ve used since then. It’s really nice, it doesn’t leave a white cast and it gets rid of any oiliness at the roots. It smells pretty good too! I can’t seem to find a link to it anywhere but it’s available at Superdrug I believe.
What have you been loving in September?

Friday’s Face #6

Sorry about the flash guys but it my camera was doing that annoying thing where it won’t focus properly without it, does that happen to anyone else? This is the make-up I wore to my cousin’s 18th Birthday meal on Wednesday, I was in the early stages of the flu here so I slapped on quite a lot of foundation to cover up my dark circles and red nose!

I used my Dr Jart BB Cream, as always, because it gives my skin a nice sheen and makes it look a bit more healthy. I then used the Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze on my lids with a couple of coats of They’re Real mascara, I’m really not a fan of this mascara! On my brows I used the HD Brows kit in Foxy but I think I need to play with it a bit more as the colour I mixed was a little too dark for me, so I brushed most of it out. On my cheeks I used the HD Brows Blusher which is a lovely shimmery pink shade, this is very pigmented so you only need a little bit. The lipstick I used is Max Factor’s Colour Elixir in Bewitching Coral, I love the finish of this lippie, it’s glossy but stays put!

Base: Dr Jart Regenerating BB Cream

Cheeks: HD Brows Blusher*

Eyes: On and On Bronze Color Tattoo by Maybelline | Benefit They’re Real Mascara

Brows: HD Brows Kit in Foxy*

Lips: Max Factor Colour Elixir in Bewitching Coral

Considering I felt like I’d just been hit in the face I don’t think I look too bad at all!

What do you think?

First Impressions: John Frieda Full Repair Hydrate + Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner

John Frieda hair products are some of my favourites and I’ve been dying to try their new Full Repair range for months now, the range is aimed at damaged hair and that is definitely something that I have. I’ve been dying my hair for over 10 years now and I’ve not treated it particularly well in that time either, my ends are very dry and the mid-lengths are frizzy. Today I’m going to do a First Impressions post on the shampoo and conditioner in the Hydrate + Rescue range.
The Full Repair range promises to reverse the look and feel of damage with every use, with Inca Inchi Oil that is rich in Omega-3 it rescues your hair from within.
The first time I used this shampoo and conditioner combo I noticed how well the products lathered and covered the whole of your head easily from only a tiny bit of product. They both washed out easily leaving your hair feeling very clean but a little tangly – this was remedied by giving it a quick brush through with my Tangle Teezer. The conditioner distributed well on my long hair, I left it on my ends for about 5 minutes as they are very dry at the moment, it washed out like a dream leaving soft hair that looks healthy and shiny.
Once dry my hair smells nice, feels light and bouncy and looks shiny and smooth. My hair seems so much healthier feeling than it did before and my colour looks even more vibrant. It’s been a while since I used any hair dye and my hair looks redder than ever, not a single strand of that washed out orange colour. I think I have this shampoo and conditioner combination to thank for that, I will definitely be keeping them in my rotation!

Nails: Bourjois Dangerous Wish

Bourjois 1 Second Nail Polish – Dangerous Wish - £5.99*

This nail polish is one of the new Halloween nail polishes that Bourjois will be launching soon, isn’t it a beaut? A black base packed with gold holographic glitter. I used a black cream polish as a base so I didn’t have to add lots of layers of this polish to get a good coverage. I can’t stop looking at my nails today, they’re so sparkly! I really love how the holographic glitter catches the light and twinkles. I can definitely see myself wearing this polish lots throughout autumn and winter, it’s suitably dark to cater to the autumnal weather but sparkly too to add a bit of something special.

What’s on your nails?

Joop! Miss Wild Fragrance + Giveaway!

The new fragrance from Joop! is completely different to the others that I associate with the brand, it’s definitely sexier and aimed at a younger audience. The packaging immediately appeals to me, I love the colour of the bottle and the skull details and I know it would appeal to people of my age and younger. The fragrance itself is lovely, it’s quite a strong scent at first giving an instant hit of spiciness but it dies down into an addictively sweet vanilla based scent that lingers on the skin for hours. It’s not a typical ‘young girl’ fragrance, it’s sexy and quite sophisticated. My Nan even loves it!
Joop! have based this fragrance around it’s namesake Miss Wild, the nice girl that’s fallen for the bad boy and lost all her inhibitions. She’s powerful, addictive and wild – the girl everyone wants to be.
To coincide with the launch of Miss Wild, Joop! have developed a quiz to help you decide which kind of ‘wild’ you are, sexy, sweet or naughty. I’ve taken the quiz and I’m Sweet Wild, to try and capture this side of me I decided to create the make-up look below. Using lots of purples and pinks I thought it catered to my sweet side but topping off with black liner and lots of mascara added a darker side. I completed my Sweet Wild look with a black mani, can’t beat black nails for when you’re feeling naughty can you?

To win your own 50ml bottle of Joop! Miss Wild you can enter my giveaway by:
  1. Take the quiz at http://www.joopmisswild.com/

  6. I will be choosing the winner on Friday 27th September at 7.30pm and will contact them via Instagram.

Friday’s Face #5

Back again with another autumnal look this week, I’ve really been enjoying playing around with my MAC eye shadows lately. I once had a whole 15 pan palette full of shadows but now I only have 4, I sold the ones I never used to use so I just have my favourites left. Let me know if you’d like to see a post on my little MAC palette at some point, I’d love to show you it although some of the shadows are very well loved nowadays. Back to today’s look, I used a No 7 Foundation as a base, the Protect & Perfect one I think,  mixed with a little bit of moisturiser. I used MAC Blushbaby blush on my cheeks to add some definition. I then used the Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo as an eye shadow base, packing MAC Sketch eye shadow on top and blending out. I used MAC Vanilla eye shadow to highlight my brow bone and inner corner. On my brows I used the L’Oreal Super Liner Brow Artist in the shade Blonde. For mascara I used Clinique High Impact as it’s my current favourite.
Base: No 7 Protect & Perfect Foundation (Calico)
Cheeks: MAC Blushbaby
Eyes: Maybelline Color Tattoo (On & On Bronze) | MAC Sketch | MAC Vanilla
Brows: L’Oreal Superliner Brow Artist (Blonde)
Lips: Laura Mercier Lip Watercolours Palette

To celebrate this huge milestone in my blog I’m going to do a little giveaway. That’s what normally happens isn’t it?

Love Me Beauty Box: September Box Reviews

I’ve been using the products from this months box for one week now and I thought I’d report back on what I felt about them. I’ve loved trying out all the different products and finding some new favourites, it’s definitely my favourite bit of getting beauty boxes. It’s only been a week of trialling these products so lots of them won’t have made any effect on my skin yet but I will continue to use them and report back any impressive findings.

Essential Care – Lemon & Tea Tree Facial Wash - £6

I’ve been using this product in the mornings to refresh my face in the shower, it works well as an in-shower cleanser as you can just rinse it off. I didn’t find this to be the most exciting of face washes but it did it’s job well and smells quite nice too, I didn’t have any kind of reaction to this product either. The little tube is the perfect size for travelling so I’ll be keeping hold of it for that. I probably wouldn’t repurchase this product.

Nip + Fab – Stiletto Fix - £9.95

I really like this foot cream, I’ve been after a new one for a little while now and this is perfect. I’ve been applying it every night before I go to sleep and leaving it to soak in overnight. It has managed to get rid of any dry patches and roughness on my feet and leaves them feeling revived. I will definitely repurchase this once it’s all gone.

Matriskin – Collagen Serum – 7.5ml sample is worth £24

I’ve been using this every couple of days on a couple of fine lines I have on the side of my face. It applies really nicely and is quite a thick gel, it soaks in quickly and isn’t sticky or anything. It hasn’t made any difference to my lines but I don’t think it’s been long enough to see an effect yet. I don’t think I’d purchase this as the price is very high.

Anatomicals – Revitalising Eye Mask - £3.10

I used this on the night I received my box and it was a nice treat but I don’t think I’d use it that often to be honest, maybe I’ll save it for pamper nights with the boyfriend. I’m glad I’ve finally got one of these and hopefully I won’t need to repurchase one again.

Murad – Osmolyte Tonic - £10

I’ve enjoyed this product but only because it’s in a spray bottle – I love spray toners. If it wasn’t in a spray I don’t think I’d rate it as much. I’ve been using it after cleansing and before moisturiser but haven’t noticed any changes in my skin at all. I’ve also used it on top of my makeup when it’s looking a bit cakey. It was a nice product but nothing life-changing, I don’t plan on repurchasing this.

Overall, this is a good box, the products were good and I’m sure if you used them for long enough you’d see results. I really loved the foot cream and the other products were things that I will use up. The only real disappointment for me is the eye mask as I’m not sure I’ll use it too often.

You can purchase this months Love Me Beauty Box here, but be quick there are only limited boxes left!

Have you tried any of these products?

Nails: By Bourjois

Photo 14-09-2013 13 32 04
Ombre nails by Bourjois
On Saturday I popped down to the Handpicked Media London Fashion Week suite at One Aldwych, whilst I was there I had my nails done by Karen Louise Nail who had been doing nails at the Zoe Jordan show that morning. The colours used on my nails were a selection of the Bourjois polishes, mostly from the So Laque Glossy range – I totally forgot to note down the colours! We decided to go for an ombre effect, using a selection of neutrals and blues, I really like how it turned out as I would have never thought to use these colours together. We then topped off the look with one of the new Halloween polishes, we went for the Vampire Vanity one which is a Gold Leaf effect and looks just like I’ve dipped my nails in a pot of gold. This polish will be available at Superdrug in October.

Friday’s Face #4

I hardly ever wear heavy eye make-up any more, but as it’s getting a bit cooler now I thought I’d whip out my favourite autumn eye shadow. Club by MAC is such a little beauty, it’s a duo-chrome shadow that appears a greenish colour when applied but it turns into a lovely reddish shade when it’s blended out. The two colours go together perfectly and I think they’re fab on greeny blue eyes like mine. Paired with a little bit of black liner and lots of mascara I think I’ve found my go-to autumn night out make-up.

Base: Dr Jart Regenerating BB Cream

Cheeks: Blushbaby by MAC

Eyes: Club eye shadow by MAC | Black Liner by Barry M | Clinique High Impact Mascara

Brows: Bossy eye shadow by Benefit

Lips: Beguiled by Topshop

What’s your go-to autumn make-up?

New Shoes

Deck shoes are not a style of shoe that I have ever really looked at before, I don’t very often go on a ‘deck’ or near any boats or the seaside. But when I was browsing the lovely shoes on offer by Chatham Marine I was surprised at how wearable some of the styles were, I especially loved the moccasin style shoes and thought they’d be perfect for autumn.
Fern Slip On Pump – Chatham Marine - £45*
Aren’t they lovely? I do love a moccasin, they always look so casual and cool but yet something a little different. I can definitely see myself throughout Autumn with tights and skirts and in Spring and Summer with dresses. The shoes are made from a really soft suede material which seems quite robust, they have a thick rubber sole which is springy when you walk. They are so comfy! Just like wearing slippers outside. I will say that the shoes are quite narrow so if you have wide feet you might want to size up. I chose the Taupe colour which is a soft beige colour with orangey undertones, they are a neutral colour which will go with everything and I really love them.
What do you think to my new shoes? Are you a fan of the deck shoes?

Haul: Pay Day Beauty Buys

Pay day is the best day isn’t it? Certainly perks you up after a long month working away (unless you work in a school like me where at the end of August you get paid for doing absolutely nothing – score!). I like to go a bit crazy on Pay Day and allow myself to treat myself to a few bits and bobs I’ve been lusting after – I mostly pick up beauty treats but occasionally it’s clothes or shoes. This month it’s all three. Woops. This post is about the beauty things that I bought myself and I might do another post on the clothes and shoes I bought if you’d like that?

Dove Summer Glow Moisturiser

I bought this moisturiser as I currently have a very tanned chest and feet and ghostly pallor elsewhere, I thought this might even out my tan a little bit for when I’m wearing skirts and things. I bought the medium/dark one as everyone says it works quicker so I’m looking forward to giving this a try.

L’Oreal Paris Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Micellar Solution

This is a repurchase as I’ve been using this product for a couple of months now and I love it, it’s so quick and easy to use and it really does work. I use it to remove all of my make-up before I do a deep cleanse, it’s also perfect for cleaning up little mistakes.

Bourjois Blush Exclusif

I was really excited when I spied this little beauty on the shelves of Boots as I’d heard lots of nice things about it, it’s a blush that’s shade depends on the warmth and PH of your skin so it creates a bespoke shade for you. Kind of like the Barry M ‘green’ lipstick that’s pink colour depends on your skin. I’ve not tried this out yet but when I do I’ll do a post about it.

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil

Another repurchase for me, I love this stuff. It’s a lightweight oil for your hair that really smoothes out any frizziness and leaves hair feeling amazing. I think I will always have a bottle of this stuff lurking in my bathroom.

Superfacialist by Una Brennan Intense Moisture Mask

A blogger favourite that I’ve been lusting after for a little while now, my skin tends to get quite dehydrated in the winter due to the heating being on all the time so I thought this would be perfect. I love doing face masks as I find them to be quite therapeutic and it’s nice to take the time to sit and relax. They also offer big results, I almost always notice a difference in my skin after using a mask – hopefully this one will be the same.

Veet Precision Wax & Care

Such a glamorous purchase I’m sure you’ll agree, I’ve wanted to try out this product for a long time but it’s quite expensive. In Boots when I bought this there was an offer on making it a more reasonable price so I popped it in the basket. I’m going to attempt to wax my top lip with this as I’ve noticed the hairs in some of my pictures lately and I don’t like it! I might also try it on my brows if it’s a success elsewhere.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat

And another repurchase! I really like this topcoat as it dries your nails super fast, my last bottle has gone a bit gloopy now though so it was time to get a new one. I’ve been using a different topcoat lately but it really frustrates me as I have to wait ages for my nails to dry.

What did you buy on Pay Day?
