Wedding Wednesday: The Engagement Party

Engagement Tea Party – Saturday 19th September 2015 Last Saturday we held our engagement party at our house, we spent the day with around ...

Wish List: Coats

  1. Burgundy Duffle Coat – Asda - £19
  2.  Embellished Parka – Tesco - £45
  3. Leather Jacket with Leopard Collar – Asda - £30
  4. Purple Coat – Next - £75
  5. Cape – H&M - £34.99
I’m so happy that it’s finally coat season again, I love coats. If I could, I’d own a different coat for every day of the week, unfortunately I don’t have enough space for that. This year I really can’t decide which style of coat to go for, for the past two years I’ve just gone for a leather biker style jacket as I feel that style complements my dress sense. Whilst I was at uni I had a vintage cape and it was my pride and joy, unfortunately I had to sell it as I was a poor student – now I’m just a poor non-student. The H&M cape looks pretty nice though and isn’t too pricey. A parka would be practical as I walk to work and when the weather gets really bad it might be good to have a coat I can layer jumpers under. I’m really loving the boyfriend style coats that are around at the moment, I don’t think I’d get one though as the shape won’t do anything for my short curvy figure.

Life: New Job and Feeding My Stationery Addiction

If you follow me on Twitter you might have seen that a couple of weeks ago I got a new job, which is super duper exciting as I’ve been in my current job for just over three years now. And we all know what a new job means, don’t we? New stationery – I’m going to admit it, I’m a stationery whore. I have a whole cupboard full of cute office supplies I’ve picked up over the years, but there is always room for more. New job means a fresh start, I need new pens, pencils, notebooks, envelopes, a diary (possibly a Filofax, although I’m not sure I’m organised enough…) and basically anything with Hello Kitty on it. There’s just nothing quite like starting a new notebook or taking a new pen for it’s debut sentence is there? I would start a new notebook every day if that was socially acceptable, the first page is always the best.
I will still be working in a school but with a bit more of an independent role that will entail being a lot more organised and resourceful, I will actually have to plan lessons and monitor achievement of my students and the like. Serious business. I’m definitely going to need to buy a more professional looking pen – I currently use the Hello Kitty one you can just see peeking out of my pen pot above.

Has anyone got a Filofax? I’ve had a couple before but never got in the habit of using them!
What’s your favourite place to buy stationery?

Fashion: Autumn/Winter Clothes Update

I love it when the weather starts to change and it gets a bit cooler, it means it’s time to ‘autumnify’ your wardrobe. If you’re like me you’ll have clothes stashed away in your wardrobe that you bring out year after year, I am a serial clothes hoarder – some of the clothes in the pictures above I’ve had since I was at uni, it’s been three years since I graduated… I especially love florals for autumn and winter, even though they’re associated with summer, with some tights, boots and a thick cardigan I think a floral skirt fits in perfectly.
I’m not one of those people that has designated seasonal clothes though, I tend to just make my favourites work by adding layers and different accessories to make them fit with the weather. I do, however, like to have a good clear out every so often to make room in my wardrobe for new pieces. I usually divide my unwanted clothes into two piles: things to give to charity and clothes to sell online. I’ve used a couple of different sites to sell unwanted clothes but I’d never thought to use Music Magpie before, they price up each item individually according to the style and brand. If you have a lot of things to sell and don’t want the hassle of auction sites I’d definitely give this a go as it’s completely free to send your items, you can also be paid in a range of ways.

Green is one of my most favourite colours, I love how it looks with my red hair and pale skin, especially in Autumn. I’ve selected a few of my favourite green items for you to lust over. I’m loving that VW bag, I’ve wanted one of those bags for so long and that colour is amazing. The eye shadow by Estee Lauder looks so pretty too, I might have to swatch that next time I’m at a counter. The Mulberry wallet is something that I could never justify purchasing but it sure is pretty to look at! The clothes are all basics that would look fab on pretty much anyone, especially loving the floral print on the skirt. I’ve been after a pair of casual high top trainers that aren’t Converse for ages now, these dark green ones would be perfect for winter.

Nails: Snow Storm

L’Oreal Color Riche – You Are Worth It & ORLY – Peaceful Opposition*

How wintery is this mani?! It reminds me of cloudy skies and snow, my favourite weather! I really enjoy wearing grey nail polish when autumn comes around, I don’t think you can get away with it in the warmer months as it’s quite a cosy colour that works better with the rich deep reds and greens that are on trend as the weather cools. I really love how these two polishes work together, the subtle glitter and confetti pieces liven up the muted grey base. This is perfect for work as it doesn’t draw too much attention but still makes me happy when I look down at my finger tips throughout the day.

What’s on your nails at the moment?

Love Me Beauty Box #2–October

My Love Me Beauty Box arrived yesterday, it’s always a good day when you get a box full of beauty products on your doorstep isn’t it? If you’re unfamiliar with Love Me Beauty they were formerly known as BeautecoBox and are monthly subscription service for all things beauty – haircare, skincare, make-up, fragrance and more. Each month there are three boxes to choose from each month each with 4-5 products in with a mix of full size and sample size things. The box costs £10 + P&P and is available any where in the UK with a letter box! It’s really nice to pick which products you receive each month as there are no nasty surprises! I really like this aspect of the Love Me Beauty box as it’s what has put me off other sample boxes like this, I want to make sure I’m getting my money’s worth and not being left with a box of things I don’t like.

Love Me Beauty Box – October 2013 - £10 (+P&P)*

Another brilliant box this month, four full size products and one sample. This month we have two make-up items, a mascara and eye liner from Lord & Berry – always impressed with items like this as it’s the perfect opportunity to try new items out properly. A full size skin care item with the moisturiser by Amie is also a great addition to the box, I use a mattifying moisturiser every day and can’t wait to try this out. The other full size item is an oil by Balm Balm which can be used in the shower or bath – the Detox fragrance will be perfect for using after a stressful day at work. The last product in the box is a sample of the Weleda Millet Shampoo which I will pop in my travel bag for when I’m off on an adventure.

Lord & Berry – Smudge Proof Eyeliner - £7.50

Lord & Berry – Scuba Mascara - £12

Balm Balm – Detox Bath & Shower Oil - £6

Amie Skincare – Morning Dew Moisturiser - £4.95

Weleda – Millet Shampoo Sample – 89p

Total = £31.34p

I will be trying out all of the products over the next week and will report back on how they’ve gone next Thursday. I’m really excited to start using them all – especially the Balm Balm oil!

Wish List: Coats with K&Co.

Winter coats are one of my most favourite things to fawn over, each year I can’t wait for September to come around so that I can pick which coat I’ll be wearing for the next season. This year I’ve been browsing the women’s coats at K&Co and I’m really impressed with the range they have this year, there is something for everyone! The sizing is fab too with items in sizes 8-24. I don’t know whether to go for a more structured coat this year or a comfy parka type jacket that I can throw on top of a few layers when it gets really cold! If you’re after a new coat this year I’d definitely check out the 337 styles available at K&Co!

Review: Organic Surge 2-Minute Moisture Mask

The 2-Minute Moisture Mask by Organic Surge is another wonderful product by the brand, it’s aimed at dull, dry hair and that is exactly what I have. The mask which contains coconut oil and plant extracts penetrates the hair shaft and helps protect from the inside out, it makes hair silky, smooth and manageable.
It works in 2 minutes, I normally wash and towel dry my hair a little before putting this through my ends – the product distributes really well and doesn’t just fall off. I then leave it for a couple of minutes and then rinse with clean water, it makes my hair tangle free and super soft.
Once my hair is dry it’s shiny, frizz-free and looks healthy. It’s really easy to manage and doesn’t tangle at all, I find it dries a bit more quickly when I’ve used this mask too.
There are no harsh chemicals in this product at all, and importantly there are no silicones – which makes it’s detangling and smoothing properties even more impressive. Silicones usually coat the hair so it appears shiny but actually have no benefit to your actual hair, so conditioners without them are much healthier.
I will 100% be repurchasing this product, my hair has been a dream since I started using it. Another fabulous product by Organic Surge
What’s your favourite hair mask?

Haul: Back to School with Not On The Highstreet

As some of you might know I work in a school which means at this time of year I pick out new things to start the year off with, so when Not On The Highstreet contacted me I decided to pick some back to school essentials. If you’re not familiar with Not On The Highstreet it’s an online superstore with the best handpicked businesses on the web, selling unique and quirky gifts. There are lots of different categories to buy things from including Pets, Home, Fashion and Weddings – there really is something for everyone. I really enjoy browsing the website as everything is so unique and you can get most things personalised so it’s fab for gifts.

I decided on this lovely polka dot bag which I thought would be fab for taking to work with me, it’s got lots of pockets to store all my bits and bobs in and it’s very large. I also like that it’s made from oilcloth so it won’t get soaked on my walks to work in the rain.

I then picked out this cute floral lunch bag to keep my lunch fresh. I really love the pattern on this and the red accents, just my cup of tea. The inside of the bag is insulated to keep everything in tip-top condition until my lunch break, it’s quite big as well so easily fits enough food to keep me going throughout the day.

The last thing I picked out was this to-do list notebook, I really like the style and colour of this. It’s perfect to slip into my work diary and remind me of all the things I have to get done whilst I’m at work. I’m sure I’ll also be using this to keep my blog organised too!

Have you ever shopped at Not On The Highstreet?
