Ultimate Gift Guide 2014

As of this moment, 9:30am 30th November, I have completed my Christmas shopping. Say what?! I don’t know where this organisation came from but I’m quite happy. I’ve now got to try and not buy people extra presents as I need to save my pennies.

I thought that I’d show you my ideas for some presents for your loved ones. I’d actually wrapped most of the actual presents up by the time I photographed so unfortunately there isn’t a guide for Dad or grandparents – chocolates all round?

Vintage Floral Suitcase - £19.95 (set of 3) – Flamingo Gifts* | Longbourn Book – Jo Baker - £3.85 – Amazon

Vanilla Brulee Treat Box - £7.00 – The Body Shop | Retro Mustard Phone - £42.99 – Flamingo Gifts*

My mum is actually really easy to buy for as we have quite similar taste, we are both lovers of homewares and reading so I’m always set with hundreds of ideas for her Christmas gift. I really love these mini floral suitcases and think they’d be fab for storing jewellery in, or even displaying something on. A new book for Christmas is always gratefully received, Longbourn is a reimagining of Pride & Prejudice from the servants point of view and I think it sounds really interesting. You can’t go wrong with some smellies can you? This Body Shop gift set is adorable and the vanilla fragrance is lovely and a good all-rounder. The phone is a beaut isn’t it? My mum is always going on about getting a retro phone and I love the bold colour of this one, it’s definitely a talking point.

Make A World Book - £5.99 – Amazon | Horrid Henry Books - £1 each – Poundland

Twinblade Adventures - £10.77 – Lego

I find it hard to think of presents for little boys but the boy I tutor has loved it when I bring these types of activity with me (when he should be learning – oops!). The Ed Emberley book is fantastic if you have someone that is interested in art, it shows you simple ways of drawing loads of different things – animals, transport, people. Horrid Henry always goes down well and these books were only £1 each! Bargain. We really enjoy reading the books together and they have some nice illustrations in too. And you can’t go wrong with some Lego, everyone loves playing with it and it’s great for getting everyone involved at Christmas time.

Grey Cat Teddy - £6.50 – Amazon | Gruffalo Word Rhyming Game - £4.99 – Amazon

 Hello Kitty Teddy - £8.50 – Amazon | Vintage Floral Suitcase - £19.95 (set of 3) – Flamingo Gifts*

The Aristocats - £5.00 – Amazon | Beatrix Potter Books – £12.99 (set of 10) – The Works

I have no problem at all choosing gifts for my little sister but then I spoil her all year round. Gracie loves cats so I’ve gone for a bit of a cat theme but you can obviously choose your sister’s favourite animal. A cat teddy which is very soft and lovely and looks a bit like Mog, a Hello Kitty dressed like an angel and the DVD of The Aristocats will all go down well. I’ve also included another of the little suitcases as I’m sure she’ll love playing with it and pretending she’s off on holiday. Some educational bits too, a word rhyming game which is The Gruffalo themed and 2 Beatrix Potter books which I’m sure she will enjoy (if she sits still long enough…).

boyfriend-gift-guide

Tetris Jenga - £10.99 – Amazon | Kindle Fire HD6 - £89 – Amazon | Tango Cracking Candy  - £1 – Wilko

Hammer Head Shark Bottle Opener - £11.04 – Flamingo Gifts*

This year me and my boyfriend have set a budget of £30 but if you’re going budget free these are some good ideas. Me and the boy love Tetris and this Jenga version seems like a really fun game, anyone else like playing board games with their partner? The Kindle Fire is a budget tablet that pretty much does everything you need, and it’s small enough to carry around with you. The popping candy gift is a great stocking filler that I can’t wait to try, everyone loves popping candy! The thing my boyfriend will like the most will be the hammer head shark bottle opener as he has a hammer head tattoo! This thing is really great quality, it’s super heavy and does it’s job well.

friend-gift-guide

Little Women – Puffin in Bloom edition - £9.99 – Amazon | Skull Tealight Holder - £7.45 – Flamingo Gifts*

Hand Cream and Lip Balm Duo - £7 – The Body Shop

The Puffin in Bloom books have stolen my heart as they are so, so beautiful – they’re designed by Rifle Paper Co. so there’s no surprises there! I have a few book loving friends and think they would love these. The Body Shop coconut range is one of my favourites and the scent is a reminder of summer in the cooler months. I love the skull tealight holder and it would look perfect in any of my friends homes.

There we have it, what are you buying for your friends and family this year?

Autumn Essentials: Fashion

autumn-essentials

Leather Boots – Red or Dead - £90 | Bobble Hat – Topshop - £16 | Nail Polish – British Racing Green by Butter London - £12

Jumper – H&M - £14.99 | Trousers – New Look - £19.99 | Faux Fur Coat – New Look - £41

Some picks for autumn and winter, it’s pay day today so I’m off shopping for my cool weather wardrobe.

A good pair of boots is an investment I make every year, I wear boots every day when it is cold so I need a pair that will last for a few months. These Red or Dead ones are a lovely brown colour and the fur lining will keep my feet nice and toasty in the rain.

Bobble hats are a love of mine, last year I had a navy one but this red one will add a pop of colour to my outfit whatever the weather.

Dark nails are a winter staple of mine, and my nail polish collection is lacking a dark green shade – this Butter London one is pricey but I hear good things about the brand.

I’ve been lusting after this mustard jumper since I saw it in the Covent Garden H&M a couple of weeks ago, it’s the perfect oversized shape that isn’t too shapeless and I love the texture of it. Mustard is one of my favourite colours too.

I have only recently started wearing trousers, I’ve been a die hard skirt and dress wearer for the past 7 years or so but now I’m starting to enjoy the feeling of warm legs on a cold morning. These subtle patterned trews are lovely and I think they’d be very wearable even paired with other prints – might have to get a pair for work.

And finally it has been my life dream to own a leopard print fur coat and I think this year might be the year – this one is surprisingly reasonably priced and I imagine it is super warm and cosy.

What are you eyeing up for Autumn/Winter?

Love Me Beauty Box: The Revamp September 2014

003

005

008

Love Me Beauty – September 2014*

Love Me Beauty has had a little bit of a revamp for this months box, in fact the whole concept has completely changed.

Now, not only do you get a choice of box but you also get to choose which exact items you put into the box. Each month you will be given 6 credits to spend in the Love Me Beauty boutique – an online store full of new and exciting beauty products. Each product is given a credit value and you simply spend your credits on whatever you like, you can also add extra products and pay for those on top of the £10 monthly fee. The Love Me Beauty website has had a complete redesign and looks very swish, when you first log in and subscribe you will be asked to complete your beauty profile – this helps Love Me Beauty to curate products just for you and give excellent product recommendations. You then go to the boutique and add products to your box and then once you have used all your credits up you checkout and your box will be sent out. Easy as pie.

Here’s what I chose this month:

011

Oriflame – The One 5-in-1 Wonder Lash Mascara

Have been using this mascara every day since I received my box, it certainly lives up to it’s name. It does amazing things to the lashes – defines, volumises and lengthens! Perfect for every day use but can also be built up for evening use too.

014

Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Face Moisturiser

Another fab product, this little sample size bottle has been my saviour for the last few days – my skin has become very dry whilst I’ve been suffering with Sinusitis. I’ve been applying this all over my face throughout the day and it really has made an impact on my dry skin situation. My skin feels hydrated, plump and makeup applies easily over the top of it, it also sinks in fairly quickly.

015

Anatomicals – Stop Cracking Up Lip Balm

I love Anatomicals, everything I have tried from them I have loved. This lip balm is no exception, it’s a thick gel consistency and it really does smooth the lips and leaves them feeling soothed and hydrated. I’ve been applying this quite thickly on my lips and allowing it time to sink in fully. The perfect treat for lips that are beginning to dry out with the cold weather we’ve been having recently.

016

Percy and Reed – Lovingly Light Foaming Treatment Mask for hair

I chose this because I love the Percy & Reed packaging, it’s just so cute and I love the fonts and the illustrations. I thought I would give this a go as I have quite fine hair and this promises to give it a boost without weighing it down. I tried this out the other day and did notice that my hair was a lot less heavy and a little more volumised. It smells good too!

I would definitely recommend that you give the new Love Me Beauty a whirl, it’s a pretty fun process and it’s quite unique in the beauty box world.

Will you be giving Love Me Beauty a go?

Autumnal Eyes with The Body Shop

008

009

The Body Shop – Shimmer Cubes – Warm - £16*

The Body Shop – Eyeshadow Brush - £9*

The Body Shop – Eyeshadow Blender Brush - £10*

You can’t beat a bronze smoky eye for autumn can you? I’ve always been intrigued by The Body Shop’s Shimmer Cubes and the Warm palette is a beaut – four beautiful brown shades that will work wonders for green and blue eyes.

I was surprised by how easy to apply these shadows were and they blend together like a dream, the eyeshadow blender brush makes it simple. I also found that using the shadows wet made them even more pigmented and shimmery, perfect for adding a bit of drama to the lower lash line.

I will definitely be wearing the Shimmer Cubes in Warm all autumn long, I especially love the deep brown shade and can’t wait to pair it with some purple eyeshadows for an evening smoky eye.

MEMEBOX: Special #16 OMG Box

064

101

MEMEBOX: OMG Box $29* (now sold out)

MEMEBOX is a beauty box that comes from Korea, and there are lots of different boxes to choose from each month – some with make-up, someskincare and some a mixture of the two. The boxes are a range of prices depending on the contents but they are all around the $20 – 30 (£12 – 18)mark, and there are special themed boxes which are a little bit more expensive. You can choose to buy a MEMEBOX at any time but it will be shipped on a certain date, these things sell out fast so if you see one that you like the look of you best buy it quickly. The beauty box is shipped from Korea via DHL in the UK so it arrives safely to your door, and the shipping is surprisingly speedy!

This time I was sent the OMG Box which is designed to make you wonder about the items, some weird products that will turn out to be awesome. The perfect box to try out some of the more bizarre beauty products that Korea has to offer!

Unfortunately the OMG Box that I received is now out of stock but I saw on the website that there will soon be an OMG 3 box available soon.

The box contained:

094

Hope Girl Night Diva Gloss (Full Size) – $22

This is a lip gloss that’s made up of two shades – orange and pink, it’s insanely glittery too. The colour doesn’t really transfer to the lips but it does leave a nice sheen. The packaging is what makes this product special though, it has a little light in the lid and a mirror on the side so that you can re-apply gloss even in the dark.

068

SKINAZ Premium Vitablet (Full Size) – $46

I was definitely intrigued by this product, it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen in the UK. Vitablet is a vitamin cleanser that comes in the form of a tablet, it contains lots of ingredients that are beneficial to the skin including more than 300g of Vitamin C! To use you add one tablet to a bowl of water and then use the water as a cleanser on the skin. I then added the water to a spray bottle to spritz throughout the day as a toner.

087

SKINAZ The Kissable 24H Lip Tattoo (Full Size) – $18

First up, this thing smells amazing! It smells just like the Boots Mango and Papaya body spray. It also is super opaque and really does leave a stain on the lips. To use the lip tattoo you apply a layer of it all over your lips and wait for it to dry, you then remove the dried tattoo from the lips and apply some lip balm. You are left with a vibrant colour that doesn’t budge from your lips all day!

076

Pure Smile Oh! My Busty!? 3 Step Bust Care Kit (Full Size) – $6

This was probably the weirdest product that I received in this box, definitely haven’t seen anything like this in the UK. This is a 3 step process for giving your bust a treat, the Gommage exfoliates the skin, the Hydrogel pack rejuvenates the skin and the cream moisturises. I haven’t tried this yet and I’m not sure if I will! Maybe if I’m going to be baring my chest!

075

Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask (Full Size) – $46

I was surprised by this product as I expected it to smell bad but it actually doesn’t really have a smell. This is a fab face mask that is perfect for deep cleansing, your face feels super clean after. It’s a bit strange when the mask starts bubbling up though due to the carbonation.

081

Ladykin Aqua Exfoliator for Body (Full Size) – $14

This is another interesting product, it’s an exfoliator that you spray on! You spray it over your body wherever you want to exfoliate and then you just rub off the dead skin cells. It’s kind of satisfying to wipe away the dead skin cells (gross but true!). The product smells quite pleasant and it really does work.

Have you tried MEMEBOX yet?
