Money: Spending Ban Week 3

050

This week I don’t feel like I’ve done too badly, I haven’t ventured to the shops after work at all which is definitely an improvement on last week. I have probably spent too much money on food again though, I really need to get out of the habit of going to the shop to get snacks when I’m hungry. I am off work this week which will either be good for the spending or terrible – depending on whether I go to the shops out of boredom or not. I am going to see my friend on Monday so will need some pennies for that but it shouldn’t be too pricey. I get paid in two weeks and I do not have a very lot of money left at all, it’s gonna be a tight couple of weeks. I am waiting for a couple of refunds from ASOS though and my brother owes me some money so hopefully they will pay up whilst I’m feeling the pinch.

Does anyone have any money saving tips?

  1. Best way me to go without spending is to hide debit and credit cards and go without them, relying on paper money and coins - that has really altered how I use and see money.

    1. I think that is what I'm going to have to do also, I don't even realise how much money I'm spending when I use my cards xx

  2. Hey!
I think it's great that you are trying to save up some money.
Here's what I do most of the time: As soon as I get paid I take all the money I don't want to spend and shift it into my savings account so I only have what I am allowed to spend in my bank account. And I only use cash. So I am not tempted to spend money I am not allowed to spend.
Maybe that works for you too?

    1. This sounds like a good idea! I will give it a go when I get paid! xx

  3. If you do go out, would it help to leave your purse at home? Just taking the things you absolutely need, like bus money or cash for the essentials? May help avoid unnecessary spends?

    1. Thanks for the idea Char, I will try leaving my purse at home when I go to work - I don't need it whilst I'm there and I pre-pay for my bus ticket so there's no reason to take it with me! xx

  4. For me the best way to save money is to avoid the big shops - much better to pop to a metro/express store or even Aldi and Lidl's, there's far less tempting impulse buys. (I'm always sucked into impulse purchases, marketing people must love me!!)

Also taking lunch to work! We have a canteen and it's easy to get carried away in there, even a £1 a day on drink and crisps soon adds up!

    1. I have this problem too, I do try to avoid big supermarkets as much as possible! I agree about the little daily purchases adding up too, I easily spend £2 a day on drinks and snacks! xx

  5. My best tip, and the only thing to stop me endlessly leaving Boots with bagfuls of products is by asking myself "do I really need this? will I survive without it?" Chances are you already have something similar at home!
