I don’t know if I’ve mentioned my love for Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip here before? But they have heavily featured on my iTunes playlist for the past 6 or so years, it was love at first listen. I heard ‘Thou Shalt Always Kill’ and I was besotted, the clever lyrics and Pip’s accent paired with heavy beats is perfection. I still listen to their first album, probably once a week, it’s a rollercoaster of hard-hitting emotional songs mixed with upbeat pop-y tunes. What they do is very special, it’s unique – life lessons set to amazing beats that get stuck in your head for hours after listening.

On Saturday night I popped down to Bedford Corn Exchange to see DLS vs SP on their Repent Replenish Repeat tour, I was so excited for this gig. The support artists were Sarah Williams White and ITCH, but in a similar situation to last week we missed all of Sarah’s set and most of ITCH’s. We have seen ITCH before though, my boyfriend is a huge fan of his, and I would definitely recommend that you check out his work (London is Burning is my fave!). Both artists also came out to feature on songs with Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip, so we got to see Sarah in action too.

After a few (£6.50!) vodka and lemonades we made our way to the front of the stage and found a spot right near the barrier, we only had to wait about half an hour before the lights were dimmed and Dan Le Sac came out. The time we spent waiting I checked the crowd out (Yeah? But what’s their demographic?) and did a mental tally of all the beardy tattooed men that were around, into double figures…,the crowd was quite diverse more male than female but a range of ages. We managed to find ourselves stood next to some annoying students though that didn’t like being pushed into and kept flicking their hair into my face. I Got over it though as we had a perfect view of the stage.

I loved this gig, it was casual and fun and you could tell the guys were there to have some fun. The energy in the room was electric, the alcohol helped, everyone was dancing and singing. I was really pleased that they played some of the classic songs like ‘The Beat That My Heart Skipped’ and ‘Angles’ whilst mixing it up with songs from the new album. Both of the guys had good dialogue with the audience and it made me feel like we were all a part of something special.

I was a little disappointed with some members of the audience though, taking things too far and throwing drinks on to the stage and damaging Dan Le Sac’s equipment – I could see his face when it happened and he looked so angry. Things like that really annoy me, as I just think ‘why can’t people be more considerate?’ Some people just have to overstep it and ruin it. Hopefully it doesn’t put DLS vs SP off coming back to the midlands!

After they had finished playing, Pip was on the merch stand having photos and signing bits and bobs. We queued up and got a picture done and I got all star struck and couldn’t think of anything to say to him – I wanted to tell him that I use his songs at work all the time as they give good messages to the students. I did buy a t-shirt though, it’s part of my gig going tradition, unless they are over £20 then nope.

I would thoroughly recommend going to see Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and I believe there are still tickets for the April leg of the tour!

Are you a fan of Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip?
