Engagement Tea Party – Saturday 19th September 2015 Last Saturday we held our engagement party at our house, we spent the day with around ...
Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Polish – Lychee
Barry M Glitter Polish – Yellow Topaz
Bourjois 1 Second – Vampire Vanity*
A super gold and sparkly look this week, I love mixing gold and nude on the nails. I decided to layer up a couple of glitters to get a sort of 3D effect. The Bourjois polish is really lovely, containing huge chunks of gold leaf that catch the light. The Barry M gold polish has little holographic pieces of glitter in which adds a bit more depth to the look.

What’s in my bag? January 2014
Doctor’s Bag from Topshop - £40
I love these posts, I think everyone is nosy when it comes to other people’s bags. It’s interesting to see which things people think are important to carry around with them. This is my work bag, if you didn’t know I’m a cover teacher in a secondary girls school so I carry lots of random school stuff with me.
Leather pencil case by Aubin & Wills (RIP) | Various Pens & Pencils | Sulley Notebook | Green Pritt Stick | Post-its
Blu – Tak (works wonders for the fiddlers) | Superhero Notebook that I use as a diary
Purse | HK umbrella | Tissues | Chewing Gum | Fruit & Nut shot | Lollipops (rewards) | Mints | Mittens | Solid Perfume
Headache Soother | Lip Balm
Torch (It’s dark when I leave for work at 7:15am and dark when I get home at 4! No streetlights here) | Headphones
Memory Stick | Juice Cube iPhone charger
So, not too interesting to be honest. It’s usually full of random pieces of work and bits of paper, more pens and sweets. I also have a water bottle and a cereal bar in there for break time too.
What have you got in your bag?
Gok Wan for Specsavers GW65*
Replay for Specsavers Replay 18*
New specs are a bit of a weakness for me, I love going and trying on different styles. A new pair of glasses can totally change the way that you look and the way that you feel. I had an eye test way back in November but it took me until January to pick some glasses that I was happy with. I’m so glad I held out as I really love the two pairs that I chose, they are both a little bit different but not too ‘out there’ that I won’t wear them.
This first pair are by Gok Wan and I love them! They have a lovely angular shape which I’ve not seen any where else before, they are quite wide and little winged so give an uplifted effect. I love the colour of these frames, they are a beautiful purple shade with a sort of butterfly wing type print on them – the glasses are also a little darker in colour in the centre. They are such a unique pair of glasses, I love wearing them.
The second pair are my favourites, I can never resist a cat-eye frame and these are beauts. The shape is very defined and it really seems to frame the eyes well. I wouldn’t expect this pair of glasses to be designed by the denim brand Replay, who are new to Specsavers (I believe!). They are a great ‘every day’ frame and are perfect for work. They are tortoiseshell but quite a dark shade and they look black most of the time.
What do you think to my new glasses?
L’Oreal Colour Riche Nail Polish in Because You Are Worth It
L’Oreal Confetti Top Coat
I love this little nail combo I wore for work last week, for some reason it makes me think of salt and pepper. I’m not a huge fan of this confetti top coat to be honest, I think it can look quite tacky sometimes – paired with grey though, I like it. The L’Oreal Colour Riche polishes are really good, they’re quite small but the formula is really lovely. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already.

Love Me Beauty January Box – Menu 3*
This box was a welcome surprise when I returned home from work on Friday, I do love opening packages. Even though you get to decide which products you’ll be receiving with Love Me Beauty it doesn’t take away that excitement. Each month Love Me Beauty put together 3 beauty boxes and subscribers get to choose which menu they’d like to receive, it costs £10 plus P&P and it arrives with your normal postman. There are 4 to 5 products in each box with a mix of full size and sample sized goodies, ranging from skincare to make-up.
This months box is one of the best I’ve received; I can see myself using every single one of the products regularly. I like it when there is a range of products and this box contains make-up, haircare, and body care products. I can’t wait to give them a go!
Here’s what I received:
- Anatomicals You Need A Blooming Shower Body Cleanser
- Pureology Colour Stylist Silk Bodifier
- Arran Aromatics Wheatgerm & Vitamin E Soap
- NYX Single Eyeshadow
- Cosmetics a la Carte Divine Lash Mascara in black
I’m looking forward to trying everything out over the next week, and I’ll get back to you with some mini reviews of each of the products next week.

Weekly Makeup Bag #1
Makeup Bag by Paul & Joe
Each Sunday I like to change around what’s in my makeup bag, this is so that I don’t use the same products over and over again. I have quite a large makeup collection and I would never use it all if I didn’t do this each week. I thought it might be a good idea to show you which products I use, I will do these posts every now and again (not every week as I suck at weekly routines…).
Last week was my first week back to work after the Christmas break so I wanted quick, easy to use products. I always apply a layer of Carmex Lip Balm* to my lips in the mornings to prep them for lip products and to keep them in good order. I chose the Revlon Nearly Naked foundation in Ivory as my base as it offers a nice fresh, healthy look to the skin. I pair it with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to cover any pesky spots and the Maybelline Dream Matte Powder for any unwanted shine. I chose MAC blusher in Melba blush which is a neutral peach shade, perfect for natural yet healthy cheeks. On the eyes I went for the Maybelline Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze as a base, the Cargo Eye Liner in Minx for the lower lashline and my mascara duo of the moment: Clinique High Impact and Maybelline The Rocket waterproof. For my brows I used the products featured in my eyebrow routine post; the Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil in Dark Brown and Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara in Dark Brown. For my lips I picked the Collection Cream Puff in Fairy Cakes which is one of my favourite lip products of life.
This collection of product worked really well over the week and I used them all, I will be swapping out the foundation for something with a bit more coverage for this week though as lots of spots popped up over the weekend – argh!
What’s in your makeup bag this week?
So, I’m a little late with the Christmas present ‘haul’ this year but better late than never (I’m still loving watching the videos on YT anyway…). I was really lucky this year and got lots of lovely bits I’d been eyeing up and some awesome surprises too. Also I apologise that some of the images are a bit dark, the light has been a bit scarse of late!
I loved these little owl storage jars and mugs when I saw them in Wilko’s and told my Mum I’d love anything from the range for Christmas, she got me everything! The big jar will be perfect for biscuits and the little ones for tea, coffee and sugar. The recipe tin is also from Wilko and will be super useful for jotting down all those recipes I pin on Pinterest. The amazing floral kettle is from Next and looks like a teapot, how cool is that?! I love it. All the homey bits were from my Mum.
The pin-up book is from my boyfriend and we got it from TK Maxx, I really want a pin-up girl tattoo so I thought this book might be a good reference for that. The Hogwarts Library collection is from my Nan and contains the 3 ‘little’ books – The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I’ve only read the first book so it will be fab to read the others. The Gossip Girl box set is also from my boyfriend and it doesn’t really need any explanation does it? (pssst! Chuck Bass). Pitch Perfect is one of my all time favourite films so I’m glad my brother got this for me, I can’t wait to watch it again. The Sims Medieval is something I’ve been meaning to buy for ages now, my boyfriend saw it on sale and got it for me, can’t wait to try it out as I’m a little Sims geek.
I didn’t ask for too many beauty bits as I buy myself so much stuff throughout the year I don’t really need it! I did get this Bedhead Thickening Spray from my Nan which I love and it smells amazing. My Dad bought me a new bottle of Diesel’s Loverdose as it’s one of my favourite perfumes. And my Mum got me a full size of the Clinique High Impact Mascara which I loved in my sample size.
I’m a little bit of a Harry Potter geek, you might have noticed, so I was very excited to receive my very own Slytherin scarf from my boyfriend. This Deathly Hallows bracelet is cute too and is from my little sister Gracie.
I got two new pairs of shoes, the converse are very ‘me’ with their ska type chequered print and are from my boyfriend’s very generous parents. The leopard print brogues are from Clarks and were from my Dad – perfect work shoes (although they need wearing in as they cut my ankles to shreds when I wore them the other day!).
And that’s it! I was very lucky this year, getting lots of lovely things.
What was your favourite present that you received?
If you read my last blog post you’ll know that on Saturday I went to the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour, as a huge HP fan I decided that I needed to paint my nails according to my house colours. Slytherin is emerald and silver and I found this amazing sparkly green top coat hiding in my collection that was perfect. I love how the overall tone of the nail is dark but then the green glitter hits the light and draws you in. Perfect Slytherin nails.
I popped the glitter top coat over a black polish by Maybelline which is also amazing, one coat and it’s opaque – perfect for wearing under other polishes. My nails have chipped a little since application but this is to be expected with lower end polishes and I need to change my nails to a more ‘work appropriate’ colour anyway as I’m back to work tomorrow – argh!
What are you wearing on your nails this week?
For my birthday my best friend Vicki gave me this necklace and I thought it was so cool, I love personalised things, especially necklaces. I spent quite a while deciding on what to write on my necklace but last night I had a brainwave, I would pop my Hogwarts house on it for my trip to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour today. Can we say geek?! I’m a Slytherin by the way, even though the dungeons sound a little bit scary…
The necklace has two clasps at the back, one to join the necklace together and one that opens so that you can add the letters of the word you want to add on. You get quite a good range of letters too, I will be keeping them in a safe place for when I want to change the word on my necklace.
