MEMEBOX: Special #6 Whole Grain

MEMEBOX: Wholegrain Box*

Another beauty box? Yep, but this one is special. MEMEBOX is a beauty box that comes from Korea, and there are lots of different boxes to choose from each month – some with make-up, some skincare and some a mixture of the two. The boxes are a range of prices depending on the contents but they are all around the $20 – 30 (£12 – 18)mark, and there are special themed boxes which are a little bit more expensive. You can choose to buy a MEMEBOX at any time but it will be shipped on a certain date, these things sell out fast so if you see one that you like the look of you best buy it quickly. The beauty box is shipped from Korea via DHL in the UK so it arrives safely to your door, and the shipping is surprisingly speedy! I will definitely be checking out MEMEBOX again – there are some princess themed boxes on the site at the moment which sound exciting!

Here’s what I received in my first MEMEBOX:

I was sent the Whole Grain box, which is a skincare themed box with lots of whole grain based products to help exfoliate, nourish and soothe the skin. I was very excited by this as I’ve never tried skincare from a different country before and I’ve heard great things about Korean skincare. I received 8 full size products in my box worth $80 (£50!) which is fab considering the price you pay for the box. I have been trying out these products over the past month and some of them are really amazing. I particularly enjoyed the hand and foot masks as they were something that I’d never tried before.

The products I received were:

  • Grinif – Nature Oatmeal Scrub Bar – $9
    • This smells amazing, it is a 100% natural handmade cleansing bar that is packed full of ingredients to cleanse your skin. This can be used on your face or body and I’ve used it on my face a couple of times but I mostly use it on my body. The skin feels really soothed after use – I will be keeping this safe for the winter months when my skin gets dry.
  • Herbclinic – Rice Bran Powder – $8
    • This is a really strange product, it’s a powder that you mix with oatmeal and milk to create a face mask. The mask claims to revive and nourish the skin giving a visible difference the next day.I haven’t tried this out yet but I’m looking forward to it.
  • Purebess – Galactomyces – $15
    • This is a product I was excited about, it’s kind of like a micellar water but an amped up version. The Galactomyces breaks down residue and dirt on the skin as well as locking in moisture. I really like this product I use as a toner and will miss it when it’s all gone.
  • Purebess – Galactomyces 80 Eye Cream – $20
    • An eye cream by the same brand as the toning water, this is intensely moisturising but not greasy. I also find it to be quite cooling on the eye area and it really helps to wake you up in the mornings. It sinks in relatively quickly and is a good base for make-up.
  • Purederm – Anti-Stress Heat Therapy Mask Oatmeal – $12
    • This is one of those masks that heats up once you’ve applied it – I like those as it feels like it’s doing something. I was expecting the mask to be quite thick but it is actually a gel formulation once it’s spread onto your skin. It smells nice and fresh and is quite a relaxing scent. This leaves your skin feeling so soft and looking healthy.
  • Purederm – Rice Bran Collagen Mask – $5
    • A sheet mask! I love sheet masks but they’re quite difficult to get hold of in the UK so I was really excited to receive 2 of these in the box. This was refreshing on the skin and again left it feeling nourished and healthy.
  • Purederm – Daily Moisturising Hand Mask Oatmeal – $7
    • I tried these out first, they are gloves that you slip on with the mask inside – a bit weird. You leave them on for 30 minutes and then pat in the excess, your hands feel nice and soft after. A perfect treat for dry hands!
  • Purederm – Invigorating Foot Scrub Walnut – $4
    • This was really great, lots of bits of exfoliating walnut shell and apricot seeds that leave the skin feeling smooth. This was a great treat after walking around London all day, it rejuvenates tired toes and it smells nice too!

So, my first MEMEBOX was a success!

Have you tried out this box before?

Love Me Beauty: August Edition 2

Love Me Beauty Box: August Edition 2 - £12.95*

It’s that time of the month again, Love Me Beauty Box time. I was pleasantly surprised to find my Love Me Beauty box on my back doorstep when I returned home from shopping this morning.

If you’re new to Love Me Beauty it’s a monthly subscription service which releases three boxes each month for you to choose from. Each box contains at least five products which are usually a mix of full size and sample size – more often than not the majority of the items are full size though. It costs £12.95 per month, including shipping within the UK.

When I picked it up it felt strangely lightweight compared to usual and I’d completely forgotten what was in it – I opened it up and found these beauties. Four full sized make-up products from a variety of brands. I don’t think Love Me Beauty have done an all make-up box before and I was pleased that it didn’t feel like there were any ‘filler’ products in there.

Marsk – Mineral Eye Shadow in Foiled Again - £14.49

I have very little experience with mineral eye shadow but when I opened the box I was excited to try out this pretty silver shade. When swatched Foiled Again is a lovely reflective silver colour with a little sparkle, it can be built up to give a more intense colour too. I’m not the biggest fan of silver eye shadow but I gave this a go on my eyes and I actually really liked it – I packed this over the lid and then blended it out using MAC Sketch eyeshadow. The Marsk Mineral Eye Shadows are 100% natural and cruelty free.

A La Carte – Smudge-Proof Eyebrow Definer in Blonde - £23

I have actually tried this Brow Ink out before, it was my go-to brow product for a little while so I was pleased to get a new one in this box. It is a felt tip brow pen that is super easy to apply and it really is smudge-proof – perfect for long days at work. It is in the shade ‘Blonde’ but is quite dark and red toned so it works well with my red hair, not sure how it would work on light blonde hair though.

Oriflame – The One Eye Liner Stylo in Black - £8.45

Everyone loves a black felt tip liner don’t they? This one is fab – super black and you can get both thick and thin lines. The nib is firm but not so firm that it drags along the eye.

Mirabella – Lip Luster Liner in Charming - £10.50

I really love using lip liner as lipstick as I’m a fan of matte lips, Charming is a lovely red shade with a bit of orange in there too. It applied really easily to the lips with no dragging, I wore it for about an hour and there was no dryness. Can’t wait to wear this on a sunny day as it’s a really pretty shade.

And here are all the eye products in action, the eye shadow is a super pretty colour!

If you want to get your hands on a Love Me Beauty box then head over to their website.

Have you tried Love Me Beauty yet?

Yer a wizard, Harry!–The Harry Potter Tag

I saw this tag over on Zoe’s blog and I knew immediately that I had to do it, the Harry Potter Tag.

I have been a fan of Harry Potter since I was in Year 7, I remember getting the first 2 books from the library and reading them over the 6 weeks summer holiday and being obsessed. I then received the third book for Christmas and quickly acquired the fourth after that, I caught up with the series and watched the first two films whilst waiting for the release of The Order of the Phoenix. That wait was a long one, in which I reread the series and continued to fall in love with it. The wait was worst for the last two books as I was hooked by HP by then and could not wait. I read the final book the summer before going off to uni, where I met my also obsessed with Harry Potter best friend. I’ve seen the films multiple times and adore them, although they’re not the same as the books they have a charm of their own. I’ve also been lucky enough to visit the Warner Bros. Studio Tour twice since it opened. I even did a whole week of Harry Potter make-up tutorials in the run up to the last film release – you can check them out here.

1. What is your favourite book?

The Prisoner of Azkaban

This was the book I received for Christmas one year and so whenever I think about it, it brings back memories of the good times. I also like this book best as it is when Sirius is introduced to us, and the happiness that this brings to Harry. I also love the description of the Knight Bus and visiting Diagon Alley again. We also meet Lupin and the dementors and it’s in this book that Harry acquires the Marauder’s Map. I think I like this book as it’s where Harry finally becomes happy with his life outside of Hogwarts.

2. What is your favourite film?

The Deathly Hallows Part I and II

Sneaky. Can I choose two? I love both of these films just as much as each other and I’ve watched them both countless times. If I ever fancy watching a Harry Potter film it will be one of these two. There is a lot going on in them and some of the things don’t happen in the books but I love them, the story is perfectly rounded off, there’s action, romance and of course some sadness. I personally love the scene where Hermione erases her family’s memory with ‘Obliviate’ and how this links with the scene with the Death Eaters – so clever, and sad. I also love the part where Hermione and Harry dance to Nick Cave in the tent – such a beautiful scene and the music is perfect.

3. What is your least favourite book?

I like them all but I’m not a huge fan of the earlier books, I love the detail that comes in the later books and the loose ends that are tied up in them.

4. What is your least favourite film?

The Chamber of Secrets

I don’t know why, but I just never choose to watch that one over and over. I think it might be because that it focuses on a lot of other characters rather than just Harry, Ron and Hermione.

5. What parts of the books/films made you cry?

The part where Hagrid almost dies gets me every time. Hagrid is one of my favourite characters and when he nearly dies I bawled. I always cry at the bit where Snape dies too, and he gives his memories to Harry. The part where Dumbledore is killed gets me too. Basically any death and I’m crying. Oh and Dobby of course.

6. If you could hook up with any character who would it be?

Sirius Black. Yep. I like an older man.

7. Who is your favourite character?

I love Hagrid and Sirius and Snape and Dumbledore. Oh and Bellatrix.

8. Who is your least favourite character?

I’m not a huge fan of Voldy or Malfoy Sr.

9. What is your least favourite line?

I can’t think of one! Any time Malfoy calls Hermione a mudblood?

10. What would your patronus be?

I would like it to be something cool like a Panda but I doubt that would be good protection!

11. If you could have the resurrection stone, invisibility cloak or elder wand which would you chose?

Invisibility Cloak – 100% Imagine being able to go anywhere you like with no one knowing.

12. Which house would you be in?

I like to think of myself as a Slytherin but in reality I’m probably not sly enough.

13. If you could meet any member of the cast who would it be?

I’d love to meet Emma Watson.

14. If you were on the Quidditch team which position would you play?

I doubt I’d make the team at all, I’m not very athletic. I’d like to be a seeker though, like Harry.

15. Were you happy with the ending?

Yes I like how everything ended happily and that the characters ended up together and will be friends forever.

16. How much does Harry Potter mean to you?

I think it changed my life for the better when I first started reading it, it introduced me to a whole new world and led me to be quite a creative person. It also kept me reading through the teenage years. I’m happy that I know I will always have the books and films to perk me up a bit when I’m feeling sad and I can always delve into the wizarding world to escape my troubles.

Woah! That was long, great fun though! I’m off to start re-reading the books : )

Any other Harry Potter fans?

New In: bareMinerals bareSkin Foundation

a4 BareMinerals_02_EU (1)

bareMinerals – bareSkin Foundation - £26

Just a quick one, today sees the launch of the much anticipated bareMinerals liquid foundation and their new foundation brush. The foundation promises to brighten the complexion and is made with less than half the ingredients of traditional foundations. There are no added extras every ingredient is included because it needs to be there – sounds like it will be a dream for sensitive and acne-prone skin then.

I’m excited by this launch as I tried the powder foundation from bareMinerals years ago and loved it but I much prefer a liquid base. This has gone straight to the top of my wish list.

You can buy it now from the bareMinerals website, Selfridges and bareMinerals boutiques.

Are you a bareMinerals fan?

Top 5: Summer Nail Polish

Top 5: Summer Nail Polish
A long time ago on Paperbacks & Postcards I did a series of Top 5 posts and I really enjoyed putting them together. I thought I’d start doing them again, with a variety of different subjects; the first is going to be my Top 5 Summer Nail Polishes.
There’s nothing more exciting to me than trying out a new nail polish that I’ve just bought and this summer I seemed to have acquired quite a few newbies to the collection. The 5 that I will be featuring here are my very favourites at the moment for fingers and toes.
Up first is Essie Splash of Grenadine, it’s a lovely lilac pink shade that applies beautifully. It takes two coats to achieve full opacity and it has a really lovely finish to it – kind of milky. When I apply this to my nails it lasts an incredibly long time, I had it on for almost two weeks with no tip wear at all! Whenever I wear this nail polish I just can’t help but stare at my nails, it gives an instant boost of happiness. I will be wearing Splash of Grenadine for a long time to come.
I did a post about Zoya Wendy a while back and I’m still just as in love with this shade, it’s a pinky coral shade that is perfect for spring and summer. It’s bright, but it’s not too bright – I wore it for the last few weeks of work and no one batted an eyelid, in fact I got a few compliments. It’s the kind of pink that is suitable for all occasions I think – nights out, work, weddings, summer holidays, it’s unique enough to work wherever. It has a fab formula too, really fast drying and perfect application.
Essie – Beyond Cozy
I’ve also featured Beyond Cozy here before, and I am still loving this sparkly polish. It is one of the most glittery polishes I’ve ever seen and when it’s on your nails it’s still just as dazzling. I am loving having this on my nails in the bright sunshine as it really does look amazing. It also has a bit of that tan-enhancing quality that neon polishes tend to have which is nothing to complain about. The formula is fab as well, 2 coats and you’re done. Remember to add a top coat though, or it’s a little gritty.
A very recent purchase, Barry M Guava has not left my toenails since it arrived home with me. It is the most perfect toenail shade as it makes your feet look tanned and it gives a nice bright pop of colour when you’re wearing sandals. It’s a hard colour to describe and the pictures don’t show it accurately, it’s a turquoise but it’s a bit darker and more green than your usual turquoise polish. It’s unique and that is why I love it, I’ve had loads of compliments too so I think it’s a winner all round.
This Nails Inc. polish came free when I bought some Colgate toothpaste a little while ago, certainly made the toothpaste more exciting. I applied it almost instantly and it was love at first sight, I have a soft spot for red nail polishes – for years it was the only colour I wore on my finger nails. It is a perfect flame red colour, it has more orange than normal reds so it makes this polish special. It applies easily, one coat and it’s opaque and no bubbles either. It’s fab for summer as the orange in it makes it bright and easy to wear with bright summer clothes and my favourite summer lipstick – Lady Danger by MAC.
Have you got a favourite summer nail polish?

Review: Smooth Legs with PFB Vanish

It’s that time of the year when bare legs are the norm and so shaving/waxing also has to become more frequent (it doesn’t HAVE to but if you choose to go fuzz-free it requires maintenance). I personally never shave my legs, even if I am going to be baring them (sacre bleu!) as I have fine blonde hairs that you can’t really see and when I do I get that horrible bumpy rash. So when I was contacted about PFB Vanish I was very intrigued, it’s a product that claims to help out with the dreaded razor burn and ingrown hairs, it promises to relieve the sensitivity associated with shaving.
So, I shaved my legs in the shower in order to try out PFB Vanish. About half an hour after shaving the red bumps appeared up and down my legs so I followed the instructions and rolled the product over the affected area. When applied it was quite cooling and did tingle a little but it wasn’t painful at all – it does have a bit of a strong smell though. The serum absorbed quickly into the skin and wasn’t sticky or anything. I applied it again in the morning and evening on the following day and could already see a difference with the rash on my legs – after 3 applications of PFB Vanish the razor rash had completely disappeared. I have also been using the product on other areas of my body where my skin gets easily congested – the tops of my arms are prone to coming out in rashes and I have noticed less redness in these areas too.
I would definitely recommend PFB Vanish if you suffer with razor burn or ingrown hairs, it really does make them vanish! I am happy that I can bare my legs without fuzz or an ugly rash now! Let’s hope the sun comes back out to play!
