How Do You Like Your Eggs in the Morning?

Or in the afternoon or evening? To be perfectly honest I’m not the biggest fan of eggs and very rarely eat them but since moving in with my boyfriend I promised that I would be more open to new foods. One of the first steps in my journey to being a normal eater was to try an egg recipe. My favourite way to eat eggs at the moment is in Egg Fried Rice (not the most healthy!) and I will be trying a homemade version of this Chinese takeaway classic soon; I also don’t mind eating things that have eggs involved in the recipe cakes for example.

I’ve never tried any of the classic egg dishes; scrambled, boiled, poached, fried are all foreign to me. Last week my boyfriend made this omelette and I was amazed by how quick and easy it was to make. If anyone knows of any Boiled egg recipes I think that will be the next way I will try an egg. I think I’m missing out on the whole egg and soldiers thing too, maybe I should buy some cute egg cups to encourage me.

I think it’s important that we buy British in regards to eggs (and other dairy food) and the best way to ensure the eggs are of the best quality is to look out for British Lion Eggs – they’re marked with a little red lion. Almost 90% of the UK’s eggs are produced using British Lion standards so it’s not too tricky to support the UK’s hens!

What is your favourite egg recipe?

New In: Art Therapy Magazine

Art Therapy Magazine – Issue 1 – 99p

I spotted this magazine in my local newsagent at the weekend and I couldn’t leave it there, for only 99p I was willing to give it a go. I love colouring in and I really do think it helps when you are stressed out, it’s a great way to relax and forget the world for a little while. I have various colouring books that I dip in and out of every now and then, Millie Marotta’s Animal Kingdom and Secret Garden are my favourites.

This magazine is full of lovely images to colour in and articles that explain art therapy and give you techniques to help you relax. I really like this aspect in particular as I think a lot of people struggle to relax without going online nowadays, especially bloggers! There are a good selection of colouring pages as well, some A4 and others that are smaller ‘10 minute’ pictures. There’s even a colour by numbers tucked in there! I will be photocopying some of the images out for the children in my class at work as they also love to colour and working with Special Needs children means that we have a lot of stressful moments in the day.

This week’s issue came free with six colouring pencils which I’d assumed would be low quality but they’re actually not that bad, they’re not scratchy and they lay down colour well even on the slightly shiny paper. There will be a whole collection of art supplies that come with each issue of the magazine including watercolour pencils, pens and pastel pencils.

Will I be buying this magazine every week? Probably not. I will be keeping my eye out for the art supplies that I don’t have already in my collection. The normal price for the magazine is £2.99.

Do you still enjoy colouring in?

Craft Haul: March 2015

I’ve been swept up in the craft frenzy that has been going on of late with the popularisation of Project Life, I too have started a scrapbook which documents my time at university, even though I graduated 5 years ago!  I have also found a new type of stationery to buy not good, as I need lots of pretty paper and embellishments to make my scrapbook look pretty. I have also started to make some handmade cards and decorations using my new supplies so I’ve learned a few skills that I will share with you all at some point.

What I’ve bought recently:

1. Garden Party Cardmaking Pad by Pebbles 2. The Neapolitan Collection Paper Pad by Recollections

3.Heidi Swapp Favorite Things Paper 4. Studio Calico Printshop Paper

All of the above items were purchased from TK Maxx for between £2.99 and £7.99

1. We R Memory Keepers Albums Made Easy Page Protectors 2. Not Too Serious Paper Pad by Recollections

3. We R Memory Keepers Journalling Cards 4. Notelets by Papermania Capsule Collection

Again, all from TK Maxx except the Papermania notelets which are from Poundland

1. Goodies from the DoCrafts Creativity magazine 2. Silver Ink Pad by Dovecraft at Wilko

3. Easy Fix Permanent Glue by Dovecraft at Wilko 4. Stickers from Wilko

Lots of bits and bobs to turn into pretty things there!

Have you been bitten by the craft bug?

Little Treats

1st march 020

Jam Tarts

In my mind there is no better treat than a Jam Tart; got to be homemade though, I really don't like the ready made ones. As a child I would often beg my Nan to make them with me and I have fond memories of burning the roof of my mouth on the hot jam when eating the test tart.

The Jam Tarts above were the easiest baking I think I’ve ever done. I did cheat though. Ready made pastry is a saviour – pastry is something that always takes me ages to make and it’s nearly always too sticky to do anything with once I have made it. The ready made kind is just as good and comes in handy sheets that you can just unroll and cut out. I cut the tart shapes, popped them in the baking tray and added a teaspoon of strawberry jam to each, I then added a little pastry heart to the top to make them look super cute. Into the oven for 20- 25 mins and hey presto a moreish treat that has everyone smiling.
